Solution Engineer – Cybersecurity & Data
Location: Sheffield – Hybrid
Contract: 12 months initially
Rate: Inside IR35
We’re currently recruiting for a Solution Engineer to join a major financial services client in Sheffield on an initial 12-month contract.
This is a hands-on technical architecture and solution design role within a cybersecurity-focused function, working across cyber analytics, big data, cloud, software engineering and security.
You’ll be responsible for shaping and assuring end-to-end technical solutions, producing architecture documentation and working closely with engineering, platform and central architecture teams to take solutions from requirements through to production.
Key Responsibilities
Define and maintain HLDs, LLDs, reference architectures, design patterns and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).Design and evolve large-scale, petabyte-level data platforms using open-source technologies.Evaluate technologies, OSS components and vendors, including running PoCs and documenting technical trade-offs.Own end-to-end solution designs for custom-built cybersecurity applications.Provide technical architecture and design input to software engineering and platform teams.Work with central architecture and governance functions to ensure solutions meet required security, regulatory and technology standards.Facilitate design workshops and governance forums, influencing technical decisions across multiple teams.Ensure solutions are secure, operationally supportable, scalable and commercially viable.Contribute hands-on where required, including coding and technical implementation.
Experience Required
We’re looking for someone with a strong technical background who can operate comfortably between architecture, engineering and cybersecurity.
Key experience includes:
Strong experience designing, deploying and operating big data platforms at scale.Hands-on experience with big data technologies and platforms.Proven experience delivering end-to-end solution designs, from requirements through to production and ongoing support.Experience across cloud and/or on-premise infrastructure; Azure, AWS and GCP experience would be beneficial.Good understanding of cybersecurity and secure-by-design principles.Experience with areas such as IAM/RBAC, authentication, encryption, key/secrets management, logging and auditability.Understanding of Secure SDLC, vulnerability management and software supply-chain security.Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Comfortable influencing and facilitating across teams without direct authority.A pragmatic approach to architecture, balancing long-term technical strategy with delivery requirements.Willingness to remain hands-on and contribute technically when required.
