Senior Engineering Manager - Platform

About the Opportunity: The SENIOR ENGINEERING MANAGER, PLATFORM leads the team responsible for the foundational capabilities that support the organization's products, including shared services, core infrastructure, developer tools, and operational standards. This role ensures the platform remains robust and scalable as the program grows, enabling rapid and secure product development. The manager collaborates with product leadership to align technical direction with strategic goals and supports the integration of AI workloads into the platform. Responsibilities: Lead and grow a team of senior and staff platform engineers, setting clear expectations and providing direct feedback.Guide technical decisions on architecture, infrastructure, and system design, focusing on high-impact work.Manage platform delivery from planning to production, defining and maintaining platform health metrics.Develop strong operational practices including on-call and incident management with SRE.Collaborate with AI platform and security teams to ensure infrastructure supports AI capabilities securely and efficiently.Work with product management to shape and prioritize the platform roadmap.Represent platform engineering in cross-team initiatives and provide leadership with transparent updates.Ensure platform capabilities comply with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements, especially regarding student data. Requirements: Minimum 8 years software engineering experience, including 5 years managing engineers, preferably in platform-related teams.Proven ability to manage senior and staff engineers with a leadership style based on clarity and trust.Strong technical credibility with hands-on experience, especially with AWS; experience with Terraform and Kubernetes is a plus.Experience partnering with product teams to deliver shared roadmaps and coordinating across engineering, security, and operations.Disciplined in delivery, scope management, and defining completion criteria.Focus on developer experience improvements such as CI/CD and internal tooling tied to productivity and retention.Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks like SOC 2 and FERPA, with expertise in data protection.Experience with scalable monitoring and observability.Understanding of AI workload infrastructure demands and integration of AI-assisted tools and workflows.Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field is preferred. Pay Range and Compensation Package: Base salary range: $194,051 - $285,369 USD annually.Compensation includes annual bonuses or commissions, equity awards, and region-specific health and welfare benefits.
