Java Software Engineer

## About the Role Our client is seeking a mid-level Java Software Engineer to develop and maintain scalable Java applications in an automated DevSecOps AWS environment supporting the Department of Commerce. This role focuses on building cloud-native services, implementing CI/CD pipelines with integrated testing and security scans, and ensuring solutions meet reliability, performance, scalability, resiliency, and security standards. You will collaborate within Agile teams, support infrastructure automation, develop reliable software solutions, and monitor system health using effective observability practices. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity requiring W2 employment and conversion to FTE following the contract duration. ## Key Responsibilities * Design, develop, code, and test scalable and reliable software using Java technologies and frameworks. * Develop high-quality AWS cloud-native applications and services. * Design and implement database and data storage solutions. * Build and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines with integrated testing, code quality, and security scans. * Implement automation and orchestration scripts and tools for infrastructure provisioning. * Configure code, cloud platforms, and infrastructure for scalability, performance, resiliency, reliability, and security. * Develop scripts to automate routine technical tasks. * Configure monitoring, logging, and alerting tools. * Monitor system health and investigate incidents and outages. * Perform root cause analysis and implement appropriate resolutions. * Collaborate with Agile teams and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle. * Apply AI-assisted programming tools to support software development and engineering productivity. ## Required Qualifications * BA/BS degree in a related field. * 7+ years of related professional experience. * Active Public Trust or similar DoD clearance. * AWS Certified Developer – Associate or higher. * In-depth experience with Java and related technologies, including: * J2EE * OpenJDK * Spring * Spring Boot * Hibernate * RESTful services * JAX * XML * Python * SOA * Microservices * Experience developing solutions using AWS services such as: * ECS * Lambda * S3 * SQS * SNS * ELB * ALB * Aurora RDS * Experience with database technologies and SQL queries, including Aurora MySQL and Aurora PostgreSQL. * Experience with CI/CD and DevSecOps tools, including GitLab, GitLab Pipelines, GitLab Runner, SonarQube, Apache Maven, Tenable, NPM, and Nexus Lifecycle. * Experience with containerization and infrastructure-as-code tools, including Docker, Fargate, Terraform, OpenTofu, and Ansible. * Experience with Okta authorization, AWS Secrets Manager, and IAM. * Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Splunk, and QRadar. * Demonstrated experience utilizing AI-assisted programming. * Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively. * Client-facing experience with strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Strong experience with Agile methodologies and Rally. * Rocky Linux and/or Amazon Linux experience. ## Preferred Qualifications * DevSecOps certification. * Experience developing and supporting cloud-native applications in AWS environments. * Experience with infrastructure automation, orchestration, and observability. * Experience with automated security scanning and DevSecOps practices. ## Education & Residency Requirements * BA/BS degree in a related field and 7+ years of related experience. * Must provide proof of continuous residency in the United States for the last 2 years. ## Work Arrangement & Employment * Remote position. * Contract-to-hire opportunity. * W2 employment required during the contract period, with conversion to FTE following the contract duration. * Location listed as Almont, CO, US (Remote). ## Compensation & Benefits * W2 hourly rate: $55.00–$60.00 per hour. * Eligible W2 employees regularly scheduled to work 30+ hours per week may receive: * Medical insurance with a choice of plans * Dental insurance * Vision insurance * Pre-tax accounts * Voluntary life and disability insurance * 401(k) with company match * Sick time where required by applicable law ## Apply Now Apply with your resume for consideration for this remote contract-to-hire Java Software Engineer opportunity.
