Senior Software Engineer – AI & Agentic SDLC Location: Utrecht, Netherlands Hours: 32–40 hours per week Contract: Until 30 September 2027 Extension: Possible Start: ASAP Onsite: 2 days per week, days agreed with the team Language: English required; Dutch is preferred but not mandatory Contract Type: Payroll only – freelance/ZZP is not possible About the Role We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in AI-assisted development and Agentic SDLC to join the Central Development Services team. The team is responsible for defining and automating organisation-wide software development standards and delivering the supporting developer toolchain. As AI technologies continue to transform software engineering, the organisation is redesigning its development processes and engineering environment. You will play a key role in shaping this transformation, helping introduce AI-native engineering practices, AI agents and agentic workflows across the Software Development Lifecycle. This is a hands-on position for someone who combines strong software engineering experience with a deep understanding of modern AI-assisted development. Responsibilities You will: Help design and shape an AI-native software development lifecycleContribute hands-on to the development of a modern engineering environment and developer toolchainImplement AI-assisted and agentic development workflowsEmbed quality, security and compliance mechanisms into engineering processesEnsure developers and AI agents have access to the correct knowledge, context and toolingDevelop and maintain an internal AI Engineering PlaybookImprove the developer experience through automation, standardisation and reusable engineering practicesSupport development teams adopting new AI-native ways of workingCoach and guide the wider developer communityEstablish measurable insights into the impact of AI on areas such as:Software qualitySecurityDeveloper productivityEngineering efficiencyWork closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organisation Required Experience We are looking for someone who: Has HBO/WO-level working and thinking capabilityHas at least 7 years of experience as a Software Engineer, Lead Developer or in a comparable engineering positionHas demonstrable experience with AI-assisted software developmentHas hands-on experience with agentic software development and AI agentsHas applied these technologies within a large enterprise environmentHas a strong understanding of AI-native engineering practicesHas developed practical engineering standards, best practices or frameworks around AI-assisted developmentUnderstands concepts including:Agent orchestrationContext managementModel Context Protocol (MCP)AI-assisted codingAgentic workflowsCan quickly understand emerging technologies and translate them into practical engineering solutionsRemains technically hands-on rather than operating purely at architectural or strategic levelCan guide developer communities through new engineering practicesCan communicate complex technical concepts clearly to a diverse range of stakeholdersHas strong stakeholder management and communication skills Candidate Submission Requirements Candidates should clearly state: Availability/start dateNumber of hours available per weekEmployment statusAny planned holidays or unavailable periods Third-party subcontracting is not permitted for this assignment.
