About The Role Better Placed is seeking a talented Full Stack Engineer with expertise in React, Node.js, and TypeScript to join their growing engineering team. This role is ideal for a mid-level developer looking to advance toward a senior position while enjoying significant ownership and influence over product development. As one of the earliest engineering team members, you will work directly with the founding engineer and company founders, taking ownership of features from initial conception to deployment. This is a unique opportunity to shape the technical direction of the product in a fast-paced, startup environment. You will be involved in both frontend and backend development, building APIs, integrating third-party services, and contributing to architectural decisions. The role offers a chance to work on real customer problems, suggest improvements, and make pragmatic technical decisions that impact the company's growth trajectory. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess over three years of commercial software engineering experience, with a strong background in React and Node.js. You should demonstrate genuine full-stack capabilities, with experience in both frontend and backend development. Experience working within an early-stage startup or a similarly fast-moving product environment is highly desirable, along with a proven track record of owning and shipping features independently. A strong product mindset and the ability to understand the problem behind the solution are essential. Confidence in working with changing requirements and imperfect information, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving, are crucial qualities. Familiarity with Stripe, mobile development/Expo, ecommerce, marketplaces, or booking platforms is advantageous but not mandatory. Responsibilities As a Full Stack Engineer at Better Placed, your responsibilities will include building new features across React, Node.js, and TypeScript, ensuring seamless integration between frontend and backend components. You will take features from initial idea through to production, working on APIs, third-party integrations, and external services such as payments and notifications. Improving existing functionality based on customer feedback and usage data will be a continuous task. You will contribute to architectural and technical decisions, supporting CI/CD pipelines and managing cloud infrastructure. Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code is a core expectation. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with the founding engineer, product and design teams, and founders to ensure the product aligns with business goals. As the team grows, you will help establish engineering standards and best practices, fostering a culture of quality and innovation.
