We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer - Java to join a global software organization in a fully remote role.
The position focuses on backend architecture, software quality, reliability, performance, and modernization of legacy systems while collaborating closely with product, design, and engineering teams.
The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in Java and backend engineering, experience with microservices, cloud technologies, automated testing, and modern development practices, along with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Responsibilities
Serve as an internal backend architecture expert and help drive engineering standards.Improve internal software quality by modernizing and reshaping legacy areas of the codebase.Identify bugs, technical issues, reliability concerns, and performance opportunities.Improve software reliability, performance, and user experience through practical engineering solutions.Mentor junior engineers by sharing technical knowledge and development best practices.Collaborate with product, design, and other teams to clarify requirements and ensure successful execution.Participate in code reviews and shared problem-solving across engineering teams.Communicate clearly and effectively with team members working across multiple time zones.Contribute to backend engineering initiatives in a fully remote environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Required Skills
5+ years of Java development and backend engineering experience, with 7–10+ years preferred.Expert-level knowledge of Java.Experience with at least one additional backend or frontend programming language.Experience improving and modernizing legacy codebases.Experience with automated testing.Strong knowledge of microservices architecture.Experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Ability to work effectively with distributed teams across multiple time zones.Must be based in the United States and fully authorized to work in the US.Must be able to work East Coast hours.
Preferred Skills
Ecommerce experience.7–10+ years of Java development and backend engineering experience.Experience serving as an architecture or technical leader.Experience mentoring engineers and establishing engineering best practices.
Pay range and compensation package
