Senior Developer

Position SummaryThe Senior Developer is responsible for delivering high-quality technology solutions that support client requirements, resolve system issues and enhance Janison platforms. This is a 6+ month fixed-term role encompassing hands-on technical delivery and stakeholder communication (both internal and external), in line with Janison standards and client requirements. You will work closely with Project, Product, Support and Development teams, writing production-ready code, supporting platform reliability during large-scale testing events, and providing detailed technical insight that improves system performance and reliability. You will work to deadlines, often managing concurrent deliverables, and will ensure your work is documented and handed over to the permanent team by the end of the contract. Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlatform Enhancement (Coding): Contribute to online platform development and annual testing delivery cycles, delivering the agreed features and fixes within the contract term.Consistently write production-ready, easily testable code aligned with Janison's coding, accessibility and quality standards, accounting for edge cases and errors.Review existing and new code, providing constructive feedback to continuously improve team output.Approach all engineering work with a security and privacy lens: treat student-data privacy as a primary constraint and flag any change touching PII or access scoping for review.Contribute to modernisation work across .NET Framework 4.8, modern .NET and Azure-hosted services as directed.Sprints & Delivery: Collaborate with the project SCRUM team, actively contributing to ceremonies and on-time sprint delivery.Ensure commitments are realistic and delivered; anticipate and communicate blockers, delays and risks before they require escalation.Identify tech debt encountered and frame its impact in business terms (delivery velocity, change failure rate, support load) to inform squad planning.Support & Reliability: Assist with diagnostics and troubleshooting of production issues, including during large-scale testing events.Use systematic debugging to diagnose issues, including cross-service issues, and contribute to runbooks and post-incident reviews.Stakeholders & Communication: Provide timely, clear and concise proactive and reactive updates to internal and external stakeholders.Contribute to project reporting as directed by Janison leaders; this may include weekly, monthly or event reporting.Review project communication and documentation, providing constructive feedback to ensure quality, and participate in stakeholder workshops where required.Team, AI & Knowledge Transfer: Build team competency by providing guidance on code behaviour and mentoring Engineer-level teammates.Use AI-enabled development tools to improve code quality, testing and documentation, while remaining accountable for all delivered outcomes.Build and maintain relationships with Project and BAU team members, including client relationships, and assist others as needed to ensure overall programme success.Document your work and complete a structured handover before the end of the contract term, so it can be sustained by the permanent team.About YouEssential: Strong experience with C# and .NET, including .NET Framework 4.8 and modern .NETSolid understanding of enterprise-grade SQL technologies (SQL Server / Azure SQL) and best practiceSound experience in TypeScript, HTML, CSS and modern JavaScript practicesSound experience in AngularJS, Razor and/or related front-end frameworksExperience diagnosing and resolving production issues in large-scale, high-concurrency environmentsExperience using AI-enabled development tools across the development lifecycle, while maintaining accountability for outcomesEffective at collaborating with internal and external stakeholdersStrong problem-solving and communication skills, with a willingness to mentor and support othersEligibility: right to work in Australia; background checks as required by client programmesDesirable: Experience with Microsoft Azure services (e.g. App Service, Functions, Azure SQL) and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)Working knowledge of accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) and student-data privacy frameworks (Australian Privacy Principles, GDPR)Why Janison?We're proud of our fun, inclusive culture, and when you join us, you'll also enjoy: Employee Share Ownership Program: we match your share purchases up to $2,000 per yearBirthday leave: take your birthday off, on usVolunteer leave: a day each year to give back to a community organisation that matters to youReward and recognition: an annual pay review and bonus programConnected, inclusive culture: a strong focus on virtual engagement to bring our distributed, global team togetherReal career growth: genuine opportunities to develop and upskillNext StepsIf you want an organisation that will invest in your growth, give you the flexibility you need, and put your skills to work for a greater purpose, we'd love to hear from you.
