Mission Systems Engineer

About the role The Mission Systems Engineer designs, develops and integrates the systems and equipment required to support our customer missions. This role is responsible for establishing and integrating mission systems, bringing together diverse technologies, equipment and interfaces to deliver reliable, deployable mission capability. Responsibilities include: Design and develop mission systems architecture, equipment and technical solutions to support launch and range operationsIntegrate electrical, electronic, mechanical, software, communications and instrumentation systems into cohesive mission systemsDevelop and configure control, monitoring, telemetry, communications and data acquisition systemsSupport the selection, procurement, modification and commissioning of mission systems equipmentDevelop system requirements, interfaces, schematics, technical documentation and integration proceduresDesign and implement software, scripting and automation solutions where required to support mission operations and system integrationTest, troubleshoot and verify mission systems and equipment in operational environmentsWork closely with engineering, operations and customers to understand mission requirements and translate them into practical technical solutionsIdentify and resolve technical issues across system interfaces, with a focus on reliability, safety and operational readinessSupport the continuous improvement and evolution of Southern Launch's mission systems architecture and capabilities About you We are proud of the diversity of experience within our team and will be encouraged by what you can bring to this position. We are initially looking for: A mechatronics, software, electronics, electrical, systems or similar engineering backgroundStrong practical capability across hardware, electronics, instrumentation, control systems and/or softwareAn ability to understand how complex technical systems interact and translate requirements into workable solutionsStrong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to designing, integrating, testing and troubleshooting equipmentTechnical curiosity and the ability to quickly learn new technologies and systemsGood software or scripting capability, with an interest in automation, data acquisition, control or communications systemsStrong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work across engineering and operational teamsA structured, detail-focused approach, balanced with the ability to work practically and adaptively in a developing environmentExperience in aerospace, defence, aviation, industrial automation, robotics or another complex technical environment would be advantageous, but is not essential This position requires you to hold and maintain a valid Australian Defence Security Clearance.
