About The Role Leidos is seeking experienced Lead Software Developers to join the Air Traffic Business Area within the Homeland Sector. This pivotal role focuses on supporting the development of next-generation flight service and air traffic management systems. The position aligns with the FAA's broader initiative to modernize legacy flight services by replacing aging infrastructure with scalable, cloud-based platforms designed to enhance safety and operational efficiency, particularly in remote and high-dependency aviation environments. As a member of a Scaled Agile (SAFe) software development team, you will contribute to the technical execution of programs that integrate proven global technologies with modern cloud-native capabilities. Your work will involve designing, developing, and maintaining containerized applications, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the delivery of mission-critical, safety-focused solutions that serve the pilot community and air traffic operations. This role requires a proactive mindset, the ability to work independently and within teams, and a strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality in a regulated environment. Please note, this position is currently unfunded and contingent upon future project funding. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with 4-8 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 2-6 years of experience.Significant experience with Java programming language and React framework.Proficiency in web development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and common front-end tools.Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and XSD.Hands-on experience with Spring Framework, Spring Security, and Spring Boot.Proficiency in Linux operating systems and command-line tools.Experience with version control systems such as Git or Subversion.Familiarity with development tools and IDEs like Eclipse and Visual Studio Code.Experience with AI-assisted software development workflows and tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex).Experience working within an Agile environment, preferably SAFe.Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Public Trust (SF-85) clearance.U.S. citizenship is required. Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions independently and as part of a team within an Agile/SAFe environment.Write clean, efficient, and well-documented source code, adhering to best practices.Develop solutions to complex technical issues, troubleshooting and resolving problems in lab and operational settings.Participate actively in daily stand-ups, release planning, and other Agile ceremonies.Execute unit and functional testing to ensure software quality and reliability.Collaborate with systems engineering, test engineering, and system owner teams to support system integration and deployment.Provide technical support and guidance to team members and stakeholders as needed.Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, including CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices relevant to software development and air traffic systems.
