DevOps Engineer — AWS Infrastructure

We're creating a consumer app and voice-AI experience that helps family carers understand what to do next, navigate aged care and related health questions, and move through a complex stage of life with greater clarity and confidence. The role We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer / AWS Infrastructure Engineer for an initial 4-month contract to support the design, implementation, optimisation, and ongoing management of our AWS cloud environment. This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone who can quickly understand an existing AWS environment, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement robust, secure, automated infrastructure. You'll work closely with our development and technology teams, with a strong focus on AWS infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, security, monitoring, reliability, and automation. We operate in a privacy- and health-data-sensitive environment, so security and compliance awareness matter throughout. Key Responsibilities • Managing, maintaining, and improving our AWS cloud infrastructure across our multi-account environment. • Reviewing the existing architecture and identifying opportunities to improve reliability, security, performance, scalability, and cost efficiency. • Building and maintaining infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or OpenTofu). • Developing and improving CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) to automate application and infrastructure deployments. • Managing AWS networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, and load balancers, alongside an edge security / Zero Trust platform for DNS, WAF, and access control. • Managing compute and container environments using services such as ECS, EC2, and Lambda. • Implementing appropriate IAM policies, permissions, secrets management, and security controls, including federated SSO / identity provider integration. • Establishing and improving monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational visibility using CloudWatch and related tooling. • Improving infrastructure resilience, including backup, disaster recovery, availability, and deployment/rollback processes. • Troubleshooting infrastructure, deployment, networking, and production issues. • Automating repetitive operational and deployment activities. • Reviewing AWS usage and identifying opportunities for cost optimisation. • Working with developers to improve application deployment and operational processes. • Documenting the AWS environment, deployment processes, architecture, and operational procedures. • Ensuring infrastructure changes are appropriately version controlled, tested, documented, and repeatable. Required Experience • AWS infrastructure and cloud architecture. • Production AWS environments supporting commercial applications. • Terraform or OpenTofu (or equivalent Infrastructure as Code tooling). • CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions (or GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, or similar). • AWS networking and security, plus an edge/CDN and Zero Trust access platform (e.g. Cloudflare, or similar). • IAM and cloud security best practices, including federated SSO access models (e.g. IAM Identity Center, Entra ID/Azure AD, Okta). • Linux administration and scripting. • Git and modern source-control workflows. • Docker and containerised application environments. • Monitoring, logging, and alerting. • Production troubleshooting and incident resolution. • Infrastructure automation using Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages. Experience with ECS Fargate, RDS, S3, caching layers (e.g. Redis), message queues, Lambda, Secrets Manager, and AWS security/audit tooling would be highly regarded. Experience with self-hosted real-time media / WebRTC infrastructure and SIP telephony integration is a plus but not required.
