Description

We’re building an online business with big ambitions, and we’re looking for IT Engineering Managers who want to build with us. Not people looking to inherit a finished engineering organization. People who see what could be better and build it. You will have started your career in software engineering. You understand code, architecture, and the realities of building production systems. Today, you’re just as comfortable growing engineers and leading teams as you are challenging an architectural decision. You will think about what happens when traffic spikes. You will question where the bottleneck will be. You will care about milliseconds, resilience, and what breaks at scale. And when something needs fixing, you don’t wait for someone else to own it. Responsibilities You’ll have real ownership of the engineering environment and the people behind it. That means: Making and influencing architectural decisions for scalable, resilient systemsDesigning for high availability and low latency from the outsetStaying close enough to the code to understand what is being built and challenge how it is being builtRaising the bar for engineering quality, performance, and reliabilityHiring engineers who make the team strongerCoaching good engineers into great onesCreating an environment where talented people can take ownership and growWorking closely with product and business teams without losing engineering disciplineTackling technical debt before it becomes tomorrow’s problemMaking sensible trade-offs between speed, scalability, and long-term architectureTaking problems from “someone should fix this” to “I own this” Requirements We care less about impressive job titles and more about what you have actually built. You’ll likely have: A strong software engineering background and the ability to understand codeDeep knowledge of software architecture and system designExperience building or operating high-availability, low-latency systemsStrong understanding of scalable and distributed architecturesExperience with cloud-native environments, APIs, services, observability, and system performanceA track record of hiring and developing strong engineersGenuine people management capability, not just project management experienceExperience making technical decisions where there isn’t always a perfect answerStartup, scale-up, e-commerce, marketplace, fintech, or other high-transaction online experience would be highly relevant. The Mindset Matters We operate with a Day 1 mentality. Stay curious. Move quickly. Question assumptions. Get close to the problem. Make decisions. Learn. Improve. Build again. We want leaders with a strong sense of ownership who think beyond their job description and care about the outcome, not simply completing the task. If something is broken, you help fix it. If something can be better, you make it better. If the team needs to grow, you build it. And if the business scales faster than expected, you make sure the technology is ready. If you want established processes, fixed boundaries, and a technology environment where all the difficult decisions have already been made, this may not be the right move. But if you’re energized by the opportunity to build, scale, challenge and own, we should talk. This is a confidential search. Further details about the business will be shared with shortlisted candidates.
