Application Support Engineer

Application Support/Production Engineer – Trading Systems / SRE Location: Sydney About the opportunity We are partnering with a leading global proprietary trading firm to hire an experienced Production Operations Engineer for its Sydney technology team. This role sits at the intersection of production engineering, SRE and trading systems support. You’ll work closely with traders, software engineers and infrastructure teams to maintain the reliability, performance and scalability of business-critical trading systems operating across APAC markets. The environment is highly technical and fast-moving, with a strong focus on Linux, automation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement. What you’ll be doing • Support and maintain complex Linux-based production and trading systems • Troubleshoot production incidents and performance issues in real time • Deploy, monitor and maintain proprietary trading applications • Use Python or similar scripting languages to automate operational processes • Analyse incidents and identify opportunities to improve reliability and reduce manual intervention • Work closely with development teams on releases, production changes and system improvements • Support networking, colocation and exchange-connected infrastructure • Help ensure appropriate redundancy, capacity and resilience across production environments • Improve monitoring, deployment and operational tooling • Contribute to system architecture and configuration standards as the environment scales • Support the rollout of new trading products, systems and exchange connectivity What we’re looking for • Strong Linux experience within complex production environments • Background in Production Engineering, SRE, Application Support, Systems Engineering or a similar role • Strong troubleshooting skills across applications, systems and infrastructure • Python or similar scripting experience for automation • Understanding of networking fundamentals • Exposure to CI/CD, deployment and version control tooling • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL is beneficial • Ability to work effectively during high-priority production incidents • Strong communication skills and experience working across technical and business teams. Experience within high-frequency trading or electronic trading is highly regarded but not essential. Engineers coming from other large-scale, highly available or business-critical production environments will also be considered. Why consider the opportunity?
