Principal Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Software Engineer based in Germany. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will help build the next generation of browser-based security features used by millions of people worldwide. You will join a distributed, collaborative engineering team focused on protecting consumers from online threats while keeping the user experience simple and intuitive. The role combines hands-on software development with technical leadership, architecture, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration. You will work closely with Product, UX, and QA teams to deliver ambitious initiatives with high standards for quality and performance. You will also design integrations across complex systems and contribute to engineering practices that enable scalable, reliable products. Accountabilities Develop and deliver next-generation features designed to protect consumers from online threats. Write high-quality, maintainable software using modern technologies and established engineering best practices. Design scalable technical solutions for products and services used by millions of clients. Create design documentation, unit tests, and other engineering artifacts to ensure reliable and maintainable code. Collaborate closely with Product, UX, and QA teams to translate an ambitious roadmap into high-quality releases delivered on schedule. Design and develop key integrations between different systems and products. Apply AI-enabled workflows while maintaining product quality and user experience. Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and helping maintain strong engineering standards. Mentor fellow engineers, share knowledge, and support the professional growth of the wider team. Communicate proactively, take ownership of deliverables, and contribute to a collaborative environment where team members can achieve their goals. Troubleshoot complex technical issues and continuously identify opportunities to improve products and engineering processes. Requirements Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, software architecture, and common design patterns. Strong hands-on experience with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and Go. Demonstrated experience architecting and developing software products used at significant scale, ideally by millions of users. Experience working with AI-related workflows while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability. Strong experience with Git and modern software development practices. Proven experience participating in regular code reviews and giving and receiving constructive professional feedback. User-centric mindset with an appreciation for UX and the impact of technical decisions on the customer experience. Strong testing mindset, with an instinct for writing effective and maintainable automated tests. Excellent task management and estimation skills, with the ability to plan and prioritize work effectively. Strong debugging and troubleshooting capabilities. Excellent communication, collaboration, and continuous-learning skills. Team-oriented attitude with a proactive, ownership-driven approach to problem solving.
