Backend Engineer

Hiring: Senior Backend Engineer | Booking Platform & APIs | NYC I’m working with a $37M-funded Series B startup that’s changing how people experience hotels. Instead of booking an overnight stay, customers can book access to pools, beaches, spas, cabanas, and more. The business already has real scale: 7M+ guests served, 2,700+ hotel partners across 30 countries, and partnerships with Marriott and Hilton. Now the team is building the booking and distribution platform to bring those experiences to more people through more channels. They’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to be the primary hands-on builder of their external booking API. You’ll own much of its technical roadmap and help shape how live pricing, availability, holds, reservations, changes, and cancellations work across the platform. The engineering challenge is substantial. A pool pass, cabana, spa treatment, and event ticket each have different inventory and booking rules. Your job is to help bring them into a shared system that stays reliable when partners send duplicate requests, inventory changes, or part of a transaction fails. You’ll also establish API and integration patterns other engineers can use as the partner network grows. This is a role for someone who enjoys writing production code and making architecture decisions. You’ll work closely with a Staff Engineer, while having clear ownership of a system that’s central to the company’s growth. In the first year, the goal is for multiple distribution partners and an authorized AI agent to complete real bookings through the API. The stack: Rails, Node.js, Postgres, MongoDB, AWS, OpenSearch, and Datadog. Rails experience isn’t required; strong backend judgment and experience with transactional systems or external APIs matter more.
