Backend Software Engineer – Java / TypeScript / Node.js Location: Amsterdam – 2 days per week onsite A leading global technology organisation is looking for a backend-focused Software Engineer to join its Partnerships Platform team. The team owns a back-office portal used by strategic partners to manage products, commission visibility, contracts and account settings. Its goal is to make partner management more scalable through effective self-service experiences. You will help modernise the platform by migrating functionality away from legacy Perl systems and building new services using Java, TypeScript and Node.js. Responsibilities Design, build, test and maintain scalable software applications.Translate business requirements into reliable, production-ready technical solutions.Develop backend services primarily using Java and TypeScript/Node.js.Support the migration of legacy Perl systems to the modern technology stack.Write clean, reusable and maintainable code.Build automated tests and continuously improve software quality.Deploy and operate services in production.Monitor application health, investigate incidents and implement long-term fixes.Contribute to technical and architectural decisions.Work closely with product managers, engineers and adjacent teams.Help develop shared capabilities such as authentication, authorisation and partner data. Required Experience Strong experience building production software in a collaborative environment.Backend development experience using Java and/or TypeScript/Node.js.Good understanding of software design, testing, refactoring and maintainability.Experience owning software through development, deployment and production support.Ability to balance business requirements with technical quality and long-term system health.Willingness to learn and work with unfamiliar technologies, including legacy Perl.Strong communication and collaboration skills.
