Role overview
We’re hiring Hybrid UX/UI Engineers (Design Engineers) who can design sensible, usable user interfaces and ship them in production code.
This is not a “Figma hand-off” role.
You’ll use UI/visual design judgement and build with semantic HTML, modern CSS, vanilla JavaScript and Web Components.
You’ll work in a small delivery team (typically 4–6 people, with a dedicated Product Owner).
We work in flow (not sprints), shipping small, frequent changes.
Support is part of the role: the team builds it, the team supports it.
What you’ll do
● Turn business requirements into deliverable UI work (stories/tasks), shipping iteratively to production
● Design UI solutions (layout, hierarchy, interaction patterns, error/empty/loading states) that meet user needs
● Build accessible UI using semantic HTML, CSS, vanilla JS and Web Components
● Contribute to shared UI libraries/patterns and the documentation that drives consistent adoption (everyone owns the libraries)
● Champion standards: semantic HTML, accessibility, UI patterns; raise capability via pairing, reviews, workshops and documentation
● Identify and address technical debt alongside delivery
● Participate in production support and continuous improvement
Essential skills (all levels)
● Strong fundamentals in HTML/CSS/JavaScript, responsive design, and cross-browser behaviour
● Consistent use of semantic HTML and pragmatic, maintainable CSS
● Practical accessibility implementation (keyboard navigation, focus management, labelling, headings/landmarks; sensible ARIA; WCAG principles preferred)
● UI/visual design judgement and the ability to explain trade-offs clearly
● Comfortable consuming RESTful APIs and handling auth/error/edge cases in UI
● Collaborative working style (pairing, constructive reviews, open communication)
Senior UX/UI Engineer
● Leads UI direction on complex features and sets a high bar for craft
● Shapes shared patterns and drives adoption across teams (not “owns”, but leads by influence)
● Coaches multiple engineers, runs workshops, and resolves tricky UI/a11y edge cases
● Anticipates risks (usability, accessibility, maintainability) and drives pragmatic solutions
