You'll have the opportunity to develop event-driven applications, influence software architecture and build tools that make life easier for dozens of engineering teams.This is a hands-on development role where your ideas matter. You'll work alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative Scrum team that values clean code, technical ownership, innovation and continuous improvement. The opportunity What you'll be working on You'll join a specialist platform team responsible for developing and maintaining the cloud services that enable more than 25 data teams to build, deploy, schedule and monitor their data products independently.At the heart of the platform is a custom-built, event-driven orchestration system developed using Python and Azure Durable Functions.You'll help take this platform forward, designing reliable software, improving developer tooling and introducing automation that allows engineering teams to deliver high-quality data products with greater independence.This is an opportunity to combine software engineering with cloud technology, architectural decision-making and technical innovation. Your responsibilities Design, develop and enhance cloud-native applications using Python and Microsoft Azure.Build and maintain an event-driven orchestration platform using Azure Durable Functions.Develop reliable, scalable and maintainable backend services.Apply Test Driven Development (TDD), pair programming and modern software engineering practices.Contribute to architectural decisions using Clean, Onion or Hexagonal Architecture.Automate software delivery and infrastructure provisioning using Azure DevOps and Terraform.Build and improve internal tooling that empowers data engineering teams.Coach fellow engineers and data teams on development practices, platform tooling and application reliability.Participate in technical discussions and help shape the platform's technical roadmap.Take ownership of the applications you build, including monitoring, troubleshooting and operational improvements. What we're looking for We're looking for a software engineer who genuinely enjoys writing code, solving complex technical problems and building applications that other engineers rely on. Essential experience At least 5 years of recent professional software development experience.Strong hands-on Python development experience.Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native application development.Experience developing event-driven applications or serverless solutions.Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines.Experience with at least one of the following software architecture patterns: Clean Architecture, Onion Architecture or Hexagonal Architecture.Strong understanding of code quality, maintainability and software testing.Demonstrable experience coaching or mentoring fellow developers.Experience working collaboratively within an Agile/Scrum environment.Excellent spoken and written Dutch.
