Junior Backend Developer

We are looking for a Junior Backend Developer to join an engineering team in Amsterdam and contribute to the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of Java-based backend applications and services. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career developer who wants to strengthen their Java expertise, gain experience across the full software development lifecycle and work within a collaborative engineering environment. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain backend applications and services using Java. Write clean, maintainable, reusable and well-structured code. Apply established software engineering principles and design patterns. Participate in unit, integration and other software testing activities. Collaborate with other developers, engineers and non-technical stakeholders. Support deployment and release activities. Assist with production support and troubleshooting. Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and technical solutions. Participate in code reviews and apply feedback from senior team members. Take increasing ownership of assigned tasks and deliver reliable solutions. Stay up to date with modern backend development practices and technologies. Required Skills Must-have: 1–3 years of relevant backend/software development experience; the requisition also states 3–5 years, so I would keep the search flexible up to ~5 years. Strong hands-on Java experience. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field. Good understanding of software engineering fundamentals. Experience developing backend applications/services. Knowledge of testing principles. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a team. English proficiency. Availability to work 2–3 days onsite in Amsterdam.
