About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Staff DevOps Engineer to own and enhance the delivery and operational backbone of our AI initiatives. This pivotal role involves designing, building, automating, and maintaining secure, scalable cloud infrastructure primarily on Azure, utilizing Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and Pulumi. You will collaborate closely with teams developing AI-driven solutions across various domains, including molecular design, autonomous labs, supply chain, and professional services. Your expertise will help set technical standards, establish best practices, and define the future of our delivery infrastructure, especially as workloads become increasingly driven by large language models and autonomous agents. Reporting to the Senior Director of Data and AI Platform, this fully remote position offers a unique opportunity to influence platform architecture, improve operational efficiency, and foster innovation within a dynamic environment. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in software, platform, or infrastructure engineering, with practical experience in data and AI/ML infrastructure.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Deep hands-on expertise with at least one major cloud platform (Azure or AWS), with familiarity in multi-cloud environments and cloud-native AI/data services.Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar.Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.Proficiency in scripting and automation languages including Python, Go, or Bash.Solid understanding of security principles, networking fundamentals, and operating production cloud systems with monitoring, observability, and incident response capabilities.Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, establish standards, and mentor engineers in complex, high-impact environments.Willingness to travel up to 10% as required. Responsibilities Design, develop, and automate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure on Azure, embedding governance, compliance, and security by design.Create and maintain platform engineering ecosystems, including CI/CD pipelines, self-service portals, and resource provisioning frameworks that enable rapid and safe access to compute, data, and ML resources.Establish and oversee platform operations, including observability, monitoring, alerting, and reliability practices to ensure platform stability and performance.Evaluate emerging technologies, integrate modern tooling, and optimize platform capabilities to support scalable and efficient AI workloads.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into robust engineering solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational standards and best practices.Mentor junior engineers, contribute to technical documentation, and foster a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.Support production incident response, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements to maintain high service levels.Participate in strategic planning and architecture discussions to guide the evolution of the platform infrastructure.
