Software Engineer, Driver Experience

Products you drive will solve pain points that matter most to drivers by streamlining key interactions, reducing friction, and creating systems that feel intuitive, fair, and supportive. As an engineer at Lyft, you'll collaborate with teams like product, data science, analytics, and operations on code that empower us to iterate quickly, while focusing on delighting our passengers and drivers. Responsibilities: Design and implement backend features end-to-end with clear ownership, delivering well-scoped work from technical design through to production with moderate guidance from senior engineersWrite clean, reliable, well-tested code that meets team standards and holds up in code reviewParticipate actively in code reviews, giving specific and constructive feedback while continuing to develop your own review instinctsDebug and resolve issues across backend services including performance bottlenecks, reliability problems, and data integrity issuesCollaborate with product managers, designers, and partner engineering teams to clarify requirements and surface technical constraints earlyContribute to technical discussions and help evaluate implementation approaches for new featuresWrite unit and integration tests for your own code and develop familiarity with the team's broader testing and observability practicesAddress technical debt and make incremental improvements to existing services as part of regular development workParticipate in on-call rotations, respond to production incidents, and support teammates in mitigating customer-impacting eventsCommunicate progress, blockers, and tradeoffs clearly within the team Experience: 3–5 years of software engineering experience with a history of shipping backend features in production environmentsStrong proficiency in one or more backend languages (Go, Python, Java, or similar) with a solid understanding of performance and reliability fundamentalsSolid working knowledge of distributed systems concepts — microservices, REST and/or gRPC APIs, message queues, and async processing patternsFamiliarity with relational and NoSQL databases, including data modeling, querying, and basic indexing and performance considerationsExperience with observability tooling — logging, metrics, and alerting — and a developing instinct for how to make systems debuggable in productionComfortable working with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar) at a feature level, with a growing understanding of how services are deployed and operatedExperience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests with a focus on reliability and regression preventionFamiliarity with Git workflows, code review processes, and CI/CD pipelinesAbility to scope and break down moderately complex tasks independentlyGood communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving Benefits: Extended health and dental coverage options, along with life insurance and disability benefitsMental health benefitsFamily building benefitsChild care and pet benefitsAccess to a Lyft funded Health Care Savings AccountRRSP plan with company match to help save for your futureIn addition to provincial observed holidays, salaried team members are covered under Lyft's flexible paid time off policy. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location.
