Senior Software Engineer, Java - Mortgage Banking

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Java) ready to share, grow, and modernize the future of mortgage banking! The position is based in our friendly office in Warsaw, Poland. As a Senior software engineer (Java), you will join an agile development team delivering modern mortgage solutions for the Danish market. You will be part of a cross-functional team consisting of Java and Angular developers, testers, business analysts, and architects working together to simplify and digitalize the mortgage customer journey. The team is responsible for developing and modernizing mortgage services within the Business Innovation domain. We support digital mortgage journeys across advisory, self-service, and customer engagement channels while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and enabling continuous digital transformation. Our focus is on building scalable backend services, modern APIs, event-driven solutions, and cloud-ready platforms that gradually replace legacy applications and improve customer experience. All team members actively participate in feature discovery, business analysis, technical design, estimation, development, quality assurance, and operational excellence. We believe in strong domain ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The team consists of approximately 10 dedicated team members distributed between Denmark and Poland. At BEC, we prefer frequent office collaboration while offering flexibility to work remotely up to 8 days per month. Your direct manager will be Grzegorz Kędzierski. Primary tasks and responsibilities include: Design, develop, and maintain business-critical mortgage backend services.Build scalable REST APIs and integrations supporting digital mortgage journeys.Drive modernization efforts from legacy solutions toward modern microservice-based architecture.Participate in feature workshops, solution design, and technical refinement together with business stakeholders.Collaborate closely with Angular developers to deliver seamless end-to-end customer experiences.Own the full software development lifecycle, from analysis and design through development, testing, deployment, and production support.Improve platform stability, observability, performance, and operational processes.Drive architectural improvements and establish engineering standards and best practices.Support continuous delivery and DevOps ways of working.Mentor developers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.Contribute to maintaining high engineering quality through automation, testing, and software craftsmanship principles. To succeed you will have: 5+ years of professional software development experience with Java.Strong experience with Java 17+ and Spring Boot.Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and distributed systems & understanding of microservice architectures and integration patterns.Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar.Strong understanding of software design principles, clean code, and domain-driven design concepts.Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers, or similar. Nice-to-have: Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) & Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized applications.Familiarity with event-driven architecture and CQRS patterns.Knowledge of observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, DynatraceExperience with Camunda workflow engine and BPMN process modeling.
