Overview: At HYCU, we are building a next-generation SaaS-based multi-cloud data protection platform that helps organizations securely back up, protect, and recover business-critical workloads across modern cloud and SaaS environments. As a Senior Java Engineer, you will join a highly collaborative engineering team focused on designing and developing scalable, high-performance distributed systems that power enterprise-grade backup, disaster recovery, and cyber resilience solutions. You will work on complex backend services, cloud-native architectures, and integrations across major cloud providers and SaaS ecosystems. Location: Ljubljana, Slovenia What You’ll Do: Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices using JavaBuild highly available and resilient distributed systems powering HYCU’s SaaS multi-cloud backup and recovery platformCollaborate closely with Product, Architecture, QA, DevOps, and Support teams throughout the software development lifecycleWrite clean, maintainable, efficient, and well-tested code following engineering best practicesParticipate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical design decisionsOptimize system performance, scalability, reliability, and securityTroubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in distributed cloud environmentsContribute to CI/CD pipelines, automation, observability, and developer toolingMentor junior engineers and contribute to a strong engineering cultureStay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends in cloud computing, SaaS platforms, and data protection What We’re Looking For: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong expertise in JavaStrong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and clean code principlesExperience building scalable backend systems, APIs, and distributed applicationsHands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud PlatformExperience developing cloud-native or SaaS applicationsStrong understanding of REST APIs, microservices architecture, and asynchronous systemsExperience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and KubernetesFamiliarity with relational and NoSQL databasesExperience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practicesStrong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skillsExperience working in Agile/Scrum development environmentsGood written and spoken English communication skills It’s Great if You Have: Experience building backup, storage, security, infrastructure, or data protection productsFamiliarity with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQExperience with observability and monitoring toolsExperience using and building AI tools and systemsKnowledge of cybersecurity, ransomware protection, or disaster recovery concepts Who We Are: Our Core Values: Authenticity, Grit and Empathy are at the heart of everything we do at HYCU.
