Role Overview: We are looking for a versatile Senior Shopify Engineer to own our storefront's end-to-end experience. You will be responsible for everything the customer touches (UI/UX) as well as the underlying logic that powers our business (Custom Features, App Integrations, and Checkout Extensibility). You’ll be the technical architect of our native Shopify environment, ensuring our store is fast, modular, and highly functional. Key Responsibilities: Steer storefront architecture: Define the roadmap and technical strategy for Thirdlove's Shopify platform, guiding the theme re-platforming needed to accommodate catalog and SKU consolidation.Lead vendor governance and code reviews: Function as the internal technical lead for all storefront deliverables from our agency partner, transitioning away from ad hoc review practices.Instill rigorous software engineering practices: Implement a structured development workflow, incorporating GitHub source control, staging environments, and a clear dev-to-staging-to-production pipeline, to supersede script-based deployments and live theme duplication.Manage the third-party application ecosystem: Review and streamline the ~90 production apps, making informed strategic decisions on app retention and removal.Drive site performance optimization: Set PageSpeed/Lighthouse benchmarks and verify that every software release across current and upcoming themes meets standards prior to deployment.Oversee technical compliance initiatives: Direct storefront compliance efforts, including pixel, cookie, and tag audits, along with subsequent tracking cleanup.Align across cross-functional systems: Collaborate with the Retail Technology team and Integration Engineer to account for ecosystem dependencies (e.g., NetSuite, 3PL, personalization) during architectural planning. Qualifications: Shopify Mastery: Bring 5+ years of hands-on expertise architecting, scaling, and optimizing enterprise Shopify Plus storefronts, leveraging deep technical knowledge of Liquid, theme architecture, and Storefront/Admin APIs to power high-performing e-commerce experiences.Re-Platform Leadership: Demonstrate a proven track record of driving complex theme migrations and re-architecting store logic to seamlessly support sophisticated catalog models and high-volume SKU strategies.Front-End Engineering Excellence: Combine expert JavaScript, HTML, and CSS fundamentals with strategic code governance to effectively lead, code-review, and elevate technical deliverables from external agency partners.Modern DevOps & Release Discipline: Champion rigorous Git-based workflows, CI/CD automation, and structured staging-to-production pipelines to ensure reliable, zero-downtime release operations.Performance & Governance Mindset: Proactively optimize site performance against Core Web Vitals/Lighthouse benchmarks while maintaining stringent governance over third-party scripts, analytics tags, and privacy compliance tools.Cross-System Architecture: Apply a holistic engineering approach when integrating storefront workflows with ERPs (NetSuite) and iPaaS platforms (Celigo) to ensure seamless data flow across inventory, order management, and customer systems.AI-Powered Engineering Innovation: Leverage AI coding assistants and modern developer automation tools to maximize productivity, streamline workflows, and consistently enforce robust code quality standards.
