Ruby on Rails Developer

Job Title: Ruby on Rails Developer Location: Remote role with occasional travel for meetings Contract Type: Permanent Summary The Ruby on Rails Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining robust web applications using the Ruby on Rails framework. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance applications. A strong understanding of backend development, RESTful APIs, database design, and modern development practices is essential. The successful candidate will contribute to the full software development lifecycle and ensure alignment with business and technical requirements. Roles and Responsibilities • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze software requirements. • Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable web applications using Ruby on Rails. • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable Ruby code following best practices. • Build and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services. • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and consistency. • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects and performance issues. • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability. • Work closely with frontend developers, product managers, and designers to deliver features. • Contribute to system architecture and technical design discussions. • Ensure application security and data protection. • Maintain documentation for code, systems, and processes. • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, tools, and industry trends. Qualifications and Experience • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. • 3+ years of experience in software development with strong focus on Ruby on Rails. • Proficiency in Ruby and the Ruby on Rails framework. • Experience with frontend technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React or similar). • Strong understanding of MVC architecture and RESTful design principles. • Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL). • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git). • Experience with background job processing (e.g., Sidekiq, Resque) is a plus. • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus. • Understanding of testing frameworks (e.g., RSpec, Minitest). • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. • Experience working in the UK Public Sector is a plus.
