Early Careers Engineering Consultant

Job Description Across our two year Early Careers program, you’ll work alongside experienced consultants in multidisciplinary teams to solve complex business, technology and customer problems. The program is designed to develop foundational consulting capabilities, including problem structuring, research, analysis, structured communication and stakeholder engagement. In our Engineering capability, you’ll combine the opportunities of a global business with the collaborative, informal culture of a boutique one. You’ll work closely with people at all levels, partner directly with clients and be trusted to contribute to meaningful work from the start. Our multidisciplinary approach means you’ll learn from different disciplines, apply new ways of thinking and solve a variety of interesting problems across industries. You ll build software the way it will be built for the next decade. Our engineers use Sapient Slingshot, our AI platform for the whole software development lifecycle, and you ll use it on client work from your first project. Slingshot won Business Intelligence Group s 2026 AI Excellence Award for Augmented Intelligence, and our tools regularly rank in the top #3 globally in a number of categories. You ll join multidisciplinary teams of software engineers, architects, product managers, experience designers and data specialists. Together you ship products, platforms and services used by real customers and employees. Your Impact: Build, test and ship software for web, mobile, cloud and enterprise platforms, with AI agents working alongside you on code, tests and documentation Use AI across the lifecycle, from shaping requirements into user stories to generating code and checking it before release Modernise systems that large organisations still run on, using AI to read legacy code and recover the business rules inside it Work with APIs, data and cloud services on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Review code for quality, security and accessibility, whether a person or an agent wrote it Investigate production issues and feed what you learn into the next release Sit with clients from discovery through delivery AI now writes more of the code every year. The engineers who get ahead are the ones who can judge whether that code is right, and that judgement is what we train. You won t be expected to arrive knowing any of this. For your first three months you ll combine structured learning, shadowing, hands-on AI training and work on live projects. In your first two years you could work on a bank s payments platform, then a retailer s commerce stack, then a government service. Few first jobs give you that range. Our clients span Retail, Financial Services, Consumer Products, Energy, Automotive and the Public Sector. Over time you ll go deep in front-end, back-end, mobile, cloud, platform engineering, quality engineering, DevOps, architecture or AI engineering. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Our Early Career program shapes our culture, and they become the leaders who run the business as it grows. We want people who build things because they can t help it. That might be a side project, a hackathon entry, or a script that automates something annoying. You ask why a system works the way it does, and you care whether software is useful, reliable and well made. AI is changing what an early-career engineer spends time on. More of the job is deciding what to build and checking what the AI produced before it reaches a customer. So, we hire for judgement and curiosity. We can teach you our engineering practices, tools and industries. Caring about getting it right must come with you. We plan to make offers by the end of 2026, for candidates available to start the Early Careers program in Mar 2027. Experience & Qualification: A university degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, engineering or a related discipline, completed within 18 -24 months of the March 2027 start. We welcome candidates from other disciplines who can show engineering capability through projects, internships, bootcamps or independent learning. A GitHub profile or portfolio helps. Programming experience in one or more languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or C#, from study, projects or work Hands-on use of AI coding tools, with a view on where they help and where they get it wrong The ability to break a complex problem into parts, reason through it and test your answer High standards for your code, including tests, security, accessibility and maintainability Curiosity about cloud, APIs, data and automation Comfort working in shared code with people from other disciplines, and the empathy to hear a different view A habit of prototyping early, asking for feedback and learning from what breaks Clear communication, explaining technical thinking in plain English to engineers and clients alike Applications close on 16 October 2026.
