Junior Data / Platform Engineer Location: Amsterdam Working model: Hybrid Level: Junior Sector: Financial Services Build the data platform of the future Are you a technically curious starter with an interest in data, cloud technology and complex IT systems? Do you enjoy figuring out how things work, asking questions and finding creative solutions to technical challenges? For a large financial institution in Amsterdam, we are looking for a Junior Data / Platform Engineer to join the Data Platforms department. You will work on the development and maintenance of a data distribution platform that enables the governed exchange of data between different providers and consumers across the organisation. This is an opportunity to develop yourself in a complex, highly regulated environment while working with modern cloud and data technologies. Your role Within the Data Platforms department, you will contribute to the organisation's data distribution platform. Data from different parts of the organisation is made available through the platform so that other departments and business lines can use it. The platform ensures that data is technically checked, securely stored and made available to consumers in a timely and useful format. You will work across different teams and technology areas. Some teams focus on data transport patterns such as streaming and APIs, while others work closely with data providers or data consumers. As a junior engineer, you will initially get exposure to both teams. This gives you the opportunity to learn about different aspects of the platform and discover where your interests and strengths fit best. Over time, you will move into one of the teams. What will you do? Contribute to the development and improvement of data platforms.Work with data distribution and data transport solutions.Learn how data moves from providers to consumers within a large financial organisation.Work with cloud-based technologies and modern data engineering tools.Investigate technical issues and help develop creative solutions.Collaborate with engineers, data providers, data consumers and other stakeholders.Think along about new technologies and tools that could improve the future data landscape.Learn and develop your technical skills in areas such as cloud, data platforms and programming.Work within the technical, security and regulatory requirements of a major financial institution. The technology The teams work primarily in the Microsoft Azure cloud and use a variety of technologies, including: Azure Data LakeDatabricksSQL ServerApache KafkaAPIs and data streaming technologiesPython and other programming technologies Who are we looking for? We are looking for a bright and technically curious starter who wants to build a career in data and platform engineering. You might have recently completed a degree in Computer Science, IT, Data, Technology or a related field, or you may already have some practical experience in a technical environment. You don't need to know everything yet. We are particularly interested in people who enjoy understanding complex systems and aren't afraid to ask "why?". You bring: A background in technology, Computer Science, IT, Data or a related field is preferred.Some programming knowledge or experience.A genuine interest in learning more about technology and IT.An affinity with data, platforms and complex technical environments.Python knowledge.Knowledge of cloud concepts, particularly Microsoft Azure, is a plus.A proactive and curious mindset.Strong communication skills.The ability to work collaboratively with different teams.The confidence to ask questions and investigate how things can be improved. What makes this role interesting? This is not a role where you will be working on isolated technical tasks. You will learn how data moves through a large financial institution, from the original provider all the way to the business consumer. You will also work in an environment where technology is constantly evolving. The teams actively investigate which tools and technologies can shape the future data landscape. As a junior, you will have the opportunity to gain broad exposure to different technologies and teams before specialising further. Important to know This is not primarily an AI Engineer or Data Scientist position. The focus is on data platforms, data distribution, cloud technology and platform engineering. If you are specifically looking for a role focused on machine learning, AI or data science, this position may not be the right fit. If, however, you are interested in understanding complex systems, building reliable data platforms and developing yourself as a technical engineer, this could be a great opportunity to grow. Practical requirement You must already be living in the Netherlands to be considered for this position. Relocation from abroad is not possible for this role. Interested?
