As a strong staff engineer you will help tackle some of the most challenging problems in the bank. You will be responsible for helping in design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance of the products owned by your team. In addition to technology ownership, you will play a key role in hiring and fostering the technical growth of the engineers. Drawing on deep and broad technical expertise, you will be hands-on in the code, solving technical problems, mentoring engineers and providing leadership on complex technology issues across the platform, while also spending your time building outstanding software by both directly coding and offering close technical direction to your teams. What You Offer Strong experience in designing, building and maintaining microservices using Java/Spring with a focus on scalability, observability and operational resilience.Strong architectural judgement, with the ability to make high-quality technical decisions, manage delivery risk and bring structure to ambiguous environments.Deep expertise in analysing, simplifying and optimizing complex processes and adept at researching and implementing new and emerging technologiesTrack record for maintaining and improving code quality, rigorous testing practices and robust engineering and security standardsExpertise in application reliability, uptime management and continuous improvement through incident response and post-mortem analysis.Experience with AI-assisted development, automation, or agentic AI integration, including tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude or equivalentProven ability in mentoring and develop engineers, creating a culture of trust, clarity, accountability, high performance and ownership.Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience aligning technical direction to strategic priorities, commercial outcomes and production stability We love hearing from anyone inspired to build a better future with us, if you're excited about the role or working at Macquarie we encourage you to apply.
