Java Backend Developer

Our challenge We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Developer to design, develop, test, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend applications. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, databases, and enterprise application development. The successful candidate will collaborate with frontend developers, architects, QA engineers, DevOps teams, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver reliable and maintainable software solutions. Additional Information* The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Alpharetta, GA is $100K - $110K & benefits (see below). The Role Responsibilities: Design, develop, test, and maintain backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.Build scalable, secure, and high-performance RESTful APIs and microservices.Develop clean, reusable, maintainable, and well-documented code.Implement business logic, service-layer components, data-access layers, and integrations.Work with relational and NoSQL databases to design schemas, queries, indexes, and data access solutions.Integrate backend services with internal systems, third-party applications, and external APIs.Implement authentication, authorization, encryption, and other application security measures.Develop asynchronous and event-driven services using messaging platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent technologies.Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and resource utilization.Write unit, integration, and automated tests to ensure software quality.Troubleshoot application issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.Participate in code reviews and contribute to development standards and best practices.Collaborate with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and production releases.Monitor application health, logs, and performance metrics in development and production environments.Prepare technical documentation, API specifications, and application design documents.Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative Agile development team. Requirements: Strong professional experience with Java.Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Spring MVC.Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs.Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and SOLID principles.Experience building and supporting microservices-based applications.Good knowledge of Java features, collections, multithreading, exception handling, and memory management.Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.Knowledge of SQL, database design, query optimization, and transaction management.Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Redis, or DynamoDB is an advantage.Experience with messaging and event-streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.Familiarity with Maven or Gradle build tools.Experience with Git and standard branching and code review practices.Understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, and secure coding practices.Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred skills: Experience with Spring Security, OAuth 2.0, and JWT.Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.Familiarity with distributed systems and event-driven architecture.Experience with API documentation tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI.Knowledge of caching technologies such as Redis or Hazelcast.Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or Dynatrace.
