Infrastructure Engineer (AWS/Laravel)

We're looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer to take ownership of the servers and systems behind our platform: Laravel applications running on AWS in Canada and Europe, provisioned through Laravel Forge, across a growing fleet of production and client-dedicated environments. You'll bring that infrastructure into code, harden it for reliability and disaster recovery, and be a key technical partner in our SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 programs. We maintain our infrastructure-as-code on GitHub alongside our application codebase, and you'll collaborate closely with our developers through pull requests and code reviews, bringing the same rigor to infrastructure changes that we already apply to application code. Responsibilities Own the infrastructure behind our Laravel applications on AWS in Canada and Europe, provisioned through Laravel Forge: two core applications plus a growing number of client-dedicated environments, including validated environments for regulated clients, each with its own deploy schedule.Bring the fleet into code: move configuration out of Forge's UI and into version control (Terraform preferred), building toward monitoring and deploying safety (including rollback).Own backups, redundancy, and disaster recovery: designed, documented, and tested, including two full DR tests a year against a stated recovery target.Lay the groundwork for a load-balanced application tier, with auto-scaling as a natural next step once the fleet is automated.Handle the technical side of our SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 programs: IAM, logging, access control, patch currency while working alongside the compliance team who own the frameworks themselves.Be the person we call when something breaks: real incident response, followed by a clear writeup of what happened and why. Requirements Linux server administration in production: nginx, php-fpm, systemd, capacity and memory tuning.AWS used in earnest: EC2, RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, VPC and security groups, S3.Infrastructure-as-code experience, Terraform preferred.Backups, redundancy, and disaster recovery you've designed, documented, and tested, not just configured.Real incident response experience: you've been the person paged, and you've written what happened afterward. You don't need to tick every box. Tell us what you've run. Bonus Points Horizontal scaling behind a load balancer, and auto-scaling groups.Redis and background queue workers in production.Experience working under formal change control (GxP, SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA).Familiarity with a compliance automation platform such as Scrut, Vanta, or Drata.GitHub Actions, Laravel, PHP, Laravel Forge.AWS certification is welcome but production experience matters more. About You You've run production infrastructure before, and you know the difference between something that's configured and something that's designed, documented, and tested. You'd rather turn tribal knowledge into code and runbooks than keep it in your head, partly because it's good practice, and partly because it means the team isn't dependent on any one person, including you. You're comfortable being the first dedicated infrastructure hire on a growing team: self-directed enough to set priorities, but you loop developers in early since you'll be working alongside them, not around them. You take compliance work (audit trails, access control, patch hygiene) as part of running things well, not as a chore bolted on top. You're based in Canada, and you're fine working remotely with overlap during Eastern business hours. The Offer Competitive Salary. This role offers a salary in the range of $100,000 to $135,000 CAD, depending on your skills and experience.Performance-based bonus. Calculated on an annual basis, eligible after your first full year of employment.Remote First. We are a fully remote company. We have an all-hands company meet-up a few times a year.
