Software Development Engineer

Position Summary Samsung SDSA is seeking a hands-on full-stack Java Developer to be in charge of trouble shooting issues, developing, and enhancing software applications. In this role, you will be part of a team that creates and maintains small to medium-sized custom internal applications that supports the business and operations for our Austin Semiconductor location and support our brand-new state of the art Taylor, Texas Semiconductor Fab. This role will be working onsite 5-days a week and due to the nature of the role, it is essential to live within 1 hour driving distance from Austin, Texas. Responsibilities Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java-based enterprise software applications in accordance with customer requirements and technical specificationsParticipate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, software design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and production supportDevelop and maintain enterprise Java/JEE applications, ensuring scalability, reliability, performance, security, and maintainabilityTroubleshoot application issues, perform root-cause analysis, and execute ongoing software maintenance, enhancements, and performance improvementsDesign and maintain relational database architectures, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models and Entity-Relationship Diagrams (ERDs)Develop and optimize SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, and Microsoft SQL Server stored procedures, including SQL performance tuning for large databases and high-volume data environmentsCreate detailed software designs, technical specifications, and engineering documentationConduct code reviews and promote software development best practices, coding standards, quality, and maintainabilityDesign and implement scalable system architectures, including system redundancy, virtual machines (VMs), cloud environments, APIs, and distributed systemsDevelop and integrate RESTful and SOAP web services, APIs, and distributed communication technologies such as gRPCImplement and work with distributed messaging and event-driven architecture patterns using Apache KafkaApply application and API security practices using technologies and standards such as OAuth and JWTImplement application monitoring and observability using tools such as PrometheusPerform JVM tuning, application performance optimization, and caching to improve system reliability and response timesCollaborate with development, infrastructure, database, and business teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet customer and business requirements Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline5+ years of professional Java software development experience5+ years of SQL development and SQL performance tuning experienceExtensive experience developing enterprise-level Java/JEE applicationsStrong knowledge of Core Java, JDBC, JSP, Servlets, and the Java/JEE technology stackStrong experience with Spring Framework and enterprise application developmentExperience with Oracle PL/SQL and Microsoft SQL Server stored proceduresStrong database design and data modeling skills, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models and ERD developmentExperience working with large-scale databases and high-volume data environments, particularly Oracle and Microsoft SQL ServerIn-depth understanding of database structures, relational database theory, database design principles, and performance tuningExperience with SQL optimization and database performance tuningExperience developing or integrating RESTful and/or SOAP web servicesKnowledge of API design, gRPC, Apache Kafka, and distributed system architectureExperience with system architecture, redundancy, virtualization, and cloud technologiesKnowledge of application and API security technologies, including OAuth and JWTExperience with application monitoring, Prometheus, JVM tuning, and caching strategiesExperience with modern software development tools and methodologies, including Git or SVN, Maven or Gradle, and JiraWorking knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, and web application developmentStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear software design documents, technical specifications, and engineering documentation Benefits Samsung SDSA offers a comprehensive suite of programs to support our employees: Top-notch medical, dental, vision and prescription coverageWellness programParental leave401K match and savings planFlexible spending accountsLife insurancePaid HolidaysPaid Time offAdditional benefits Samsung SDS America, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
