Role DescriptionAs a SAP Workload Automation and Basis Engineer, you will establish and operate the scheduling and workload automation capability for our Financial Systems. Your primary focus will be SAP workloads, while the capability will also cover connected non-SAP workloads across on-premises, cloud and SAP RISE. You will define how jobs and business processes are scheduled, coordinated, monitored and controlled. This includes designing reliable and well performing job chains, establishing safeguards for both the schedule and the systems, creating policies and operational documentation, and enabling AMS partners to execute workloads consistently within clear guardrails. This is a foundational role. You will help build the capability around a new platform. You will create the technical and operational foundations that can scale over time, acquiring central relevance. The role sits within the SAP Basis team. A strong SAP Basis foundation is required, enabling a vertical capability across the technical landscape, system performance, monitoring, business processes, SAP lifecycle roadmap. The role will engage on a daily basis with platform engineers, functional and application teams, aligning scheduling practices with business requirements. What You’ll Be DoingDesign and establish a robust scheduling and orchestration framework for SAP and connected non-SAP workloads. Define standards for job design, dependencies, calendars, priorities, SLAs, retries, failure handling, reruns and recovery. Maintain an inventory of critical jobs, job chains and end-to-end financial processes, including ownership, dependencies and operational impact. Ensure that scheduling patterns are reliable, auditable, secure and maintainable across SAP, BTP, RISE and cloud AWS, os-level, on-prem, third party environments. Write and maintain scheduling policies, standards, SoPs, runbooks and operational documentation. Establish safeguards for high-risk workloads, financial close activities, sensitive data flows, conflicting activities and emergency execution. Establish auditable quality gates and guardrails providing reliable, efficient, high performing scheduling. Define the operating model through which AMS partners execute scheduling and operational requests. Convert policies into practical runbooks, checklists, approval requirements and control points that AMS teams can follow consistently. Provide independent oversight of execution quality, adherence to policy, incident trends, SLA performance and recurring operational risks. Improve the model over time so that governance removes blockers and reduces manual risk without creating unnecessary queues or bureaucracy. Contribute to an observability framework that provides visibility into end-to-end financial processes, not only individual job outcomes. Define meaningful metrics, logs, events, dashboards and alerts for process timeliness, completeness, dependency health and business impact. Partner with platform, application and observability teams to connect scheduling signals with incident management and operational response. Contribute to incident management, problem management, post-incident reviews and continuous improvement activities. Investigate recurring failures and identify improvements to job design, dependencies, capacity, monitoring, documentation or operating procedures. Support change and release planning for scheduling components and critical process chains. Ensure appropriate controls for SOx, DORA, NIST-aligned practices, internal security standards, segregation of duties and auditability. Work closely with SAP Basis engineers, application owners, Finance stakeholders, architects, security teams, platform teams and AMS partners. Explain technical scheduling and orchestration concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Share knowledge and help build a community of practice around scheduling, orchestration and process observability. Help shape the future organization, roles and responsibilities as the capability grows and may evolve into a dedicated team. What You’ll Be Bringing5 to 8 years of experience in workload automation and Basis. Hands-on experience with enterprise job scheduling, batch processing or workload automation in a complex technology environment. Experience designing job chains with dependencies, calendars, priorities, SLAs, retries, failure handling and recovery procedures. Strong understanding of scheduling and orchestration principles across heterogeneous environments, including SAP and non-SAP workloads. Experience creating operational policies, standards, SoPs, runbooks or similar documentation for technology operations. Practical experience working with operations teams, managed service providers or AMS partners through defined processes and controls. Strong awareness of observability concepts, including metrics, logs, events, dashboards and alerting. Ability to connect technical monitoring with end-to-end business or financial processes. SAP Basis technical experience, with a good understanding of SAP landscapes, HANA and S/4HANA. Goo conceptual knowledge of Linux, databases and networking. Scripting or automation experience, for example with Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar technologies. Strong understanding of security topics, segregation of duties, auditability and change management in regulated environments. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Experience with one or more enterprise scheduling or orchestration platforms, such as SAP Central Process Scheduling, Redwood, Control-M, Automic or equivalent products. Experience with SAP on HANA, S/4HANA, Central Finance, RISE with SAP, SAP BTP or SAP-related integration technologies. Experience operating in hybrid or cloud environments and integrating scheduling with APIs, event-driven services, data pipelines or cloud-native workloads. Experience with process-level monitoring, business process observability or proactive operations. Experience in FinTech, banking, travel, retail or another regulated, high-volume enterprise environment. Experience contributing to technology product selection, proof-of-concept work or platform implementation. Familiarity with SOx, DORA, NIST or comparable regulatory and control frameworks.
