Description

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer – Autonomous Systems to contribute to the development of autonomy solutions for Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), including the conversion of manned vessels into remotely operated and autonomous platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for: Designing and implementing software and control architectures for USVs, including vehicle control modules and the integration of propulsion, steering, throttle, and auxiliary systems.Developing guidance and navigation functions such as waypoint following, line-of-sight guidance, and collision avoidance, with consideration of COLREGs.Developing sensor-fusion and state-estimation solutions using techniques such as EKF, UKF, or Particle Filters.Integrating marine sensors and navigation systems, including radar, AIS, cameras, LiDAR, and associated C2 systems.Designing fail-safe and fault-management mechanisms covering communication loss, sensor and engine failures, and remote emergency-stop scenarios.Developing software across the system stack, from embedded and actuator control to mission and navigation software.Integrating marine equipment using CAN/CAN Bus, NMEA 0183/2000, and related communication protocols.Supporting system integration, commissioning, testing, and sea trials in collaboration with hardware, systems engineering, and product teams. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.Strong programming experience in C++.Practical experience in autonomous control systems and embedded platforms.Experience with autonomy frameworks such as MOOS-IvP, ArduPilot/ArduRover, PX4, or equivalent platforms.Experience with real-time and embedded control systems.Practical experience in SITL, HIL, bench testing, system integration, and field testing.Familiarity with CAN Bus, NMEA 0183/2000, and marine electronics integration.Experience with USV/UUV/ASV platforms or manned-to-unmanned vessel conversion will be considered relevant.Knowledge of COLREGs, maritime autonomy, simulation environments such as MATLAB/Simulink, Gazebo or VRX, and integration with C2 systems would be advantageous.Experience in AI/ML, edge computing, or cloud technologies applied to autonomous systems is also relevant.
