Senior Java Developer

Help shape a major foreign exchange technology project within an international financial organisation. We’re looking for a Senior Java Developer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and taking ownership of technical decisions. You’ll combine hands-on development with system design, helping build scalable, reliable services for a high-visibility project within the FX business. The opportunity This role offers the chance to influence how software is designed, developed, and delivered. Working closely with engineering teams and business stakeholders, you’ll tackle performance and concurrency challenges, develop microservices, and contribute to engineering standards. It’s an opportunity to deepen your expertise in financial technology while remaining closely involved in the code and architecture. Your responsibilities will include: Designing and developing backend applications using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.Building microservices that are maintainable, scalable, and optimised for performance.Investigating performance bottlenecks and addressing multithreading challenges.Translating business requirements into technical solutions alongside product and engineering colleagues.Strengthening code quality through peer reviews, unit testing, and secure development practices.Contributing to automated build and delivery processes within a DevOps environment.Explaining technical trade-offs to stakeholders and considering risk and controls in engineering decisions. What you’ll bring Strong hands-on Java development experience and excellent knowledge of Spring and Spring Boot.Practical experience with multithreading and application performance tuning.Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures.Familiarity with Git, build and delivery tools such as TeamCity, and DevOps principles.Sound technical judgement and the ability to take ownership of complex development work.A collaborative approach to problem-solving, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.Experience with REST APIs, Kafka, GraphQL, cloud infrastructure, Docker, or Kubernetes would be an advantage.
