Full stack software developer (Ruby on Rails)

Our search tools are used by tens of thousands of researchers from the world’s top universities and pharmaceutical companies to help them buy the right reagents and avoid failed experiments that waste time, money and patient samples. About the role We are expanding our tech team to accelerate development of our industry leading data collection, machine learning and search engine technology. We are looking for a mid-level engineer to join our team. Our ideal candidate will have completed a Computer Science (or similar) degree and would have experience working as a full stack web developer ideally in Ruby on Rails. Experience in machine learning, NLP, text mining or similar in Python would be a big plus. We are a small team of 4 which means you will be rapidly making an important contribution to building fundamental parts of our systems that are helping scientists globally. Therefore, you’ll need to be enthusiastic, quick to pick up new concepts and diligent in your work. We embrace experimentation and innovation, but our customers have high expectations of quality and reliability. Skills and experience required: Hold a university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related subjectHave experience using an MVC web framework (e.g. Ruby on Rails)Have good experience with the core web technologies: HTTP, HTML, CSS and JavaScriptHave a knowledge of SQL databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL)Be quick to grasp scientific concepts. Whilst we don’t require any biology or chemistry background, you will be working in these domains every day and must be able to rapidly absorb and apply knowledge from colleaguesHave excellent written and spoken EnglishMust be eligible to work in the UK.
