About The Role The Senior Software Engineer at Exam Papers Plus will play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining the company's core platform, which serves thousands of learners and educators. This position requires a hands-on, full-stack developer who is passionate about building scalable, high-quality software solutions. Collaborating closely with the Lead Engineer and an external development team, the successful candidate will utilize AI tools to accelerate development cycles while ensuring the highest standards of code quality, security, and performance. The role demands a proactive approach to feature delivery, technical excellence, and continuous improvement, making it ideal for someone eager to make a tangible impact in the edtech space. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of three years of experience as a full-stack engineer, with a significant portion at a senior level. Proficiency in TypeScript and experience working within a monorepo environment using pnpm and Turborepo are essential. Familiarity with React 19, including TanStack Start, Router, and Query, as well as Tailwind CSS, Prisma, and PostgreSQL (or similar database systems), is required. Experience with payment and authentication integrations such as Stripe and Better-Auth, alongside deployment to Google Cloud Run via GitHub Actions and Terraform-managed infrastructure, will be highly advantageous. Additionally, comfort with AI-assisted development tools like Cursor and Claude, and a demonstrated ability to ship quality code rapidly without compromising standards, are critical. Candidates should also demonstrate ownership, clear communication skills, and a pragmatic approach to balancing perfection with practicality. Experience in educational technology, learning platforms, or related workflows will be considered a plus. Responsibilities The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying features across the company's learner and content platforms. This includes translating specifications into robust, scalable solutions from initial concept through to production deployment. The role involves actively utilizing AI tools to streamline development processes while maintaining rigorous validation to safeguard code quality, security, and performance standards. The candidate will participate in code reviews, contribute to the establishment and adherence to engineering best practices, and write automated tests to prevent technical debt. Collaboration is key; working alongside the Lead Engineer and other team members, the engineer will pair on complex tasks, share expertise, and mentor less experienced colleagues. The role also entails contributing to architectural discussions, evaluating trade-offs, and proposing pragmatic solutions that align with user needs and business goals. Furthermore, the engineer will be expected to stay abreast of emerging technologies, particularly AI-assisted development tools, and incorporate these innovations to enhance team productivity and product quality. Regular communication with product and design teams will ensure technical solutions are aligned with user experience and project objectives. Benefits Exam Papers Plus offers a competitive benefits package, including a salary range of £55,000 to £65,000 commensurate with experience. The role is permanent and full-time, with a hybrid working model requiring two days per week in the company's Clerkenwell, London office.
