WordPress Backend Developer

We’re looking for an experienced WordPress back-end developer to fix and strengthen an existing subscription-content setup. The site uses MemberPress for subscriptions and paywalled articles, with SiteGround caching enabled. The current setup is mostly working, but we’ve identified a few edge cases that need to be handled properly. Part A — Paywall & Meter Fixes Our articles are currently protected using an intentional two-article meter before the visitor is required to subscribe. There are two main issues: SiteGround full-page caching: In certain situations, a visitor arriving without the expected cookie can receive a cached version of a gated article without the paywall being applied correctly. Meter cookie: The current meter value is stored as plain Base64 data and can be modified or rewritten directly from the browser. We need a more reliable approach so the client-side cookie cannot simply be edited to bypass the intended article limit. We need someone who understands the interaction between WordPress, MemberPress, cookies, caching layers, and server-side logic and can fix this without unnecessarily disrupting the existing subscription flow. We’d also like the paywall/metering behavior to be correctly reflected in the site's structured data/schema, so search engines receive the appropriate information about gated content. The solution should be tested against scenarios such as: New visitor with no existing cookie Visitor reading their first and second free articles Visitor reaching the paywall Visitor attempting to modify or remove the meter cookie Cached vs. uncached article requests Logged-in/subscribed MemberPress users Different browsers or private/incognito sessions Part B — Install Four Existing Page Designs We also have four completed page designs that need to be implemented on the WordPress site. This is not a design project. The markup, styling instructions, assets and copy will be supplied. Your responsibility is primarily to install and integrate the pages cleanly into the existing WordPress environment. You should be comfortable working with an existing theme/plugin setup and making the required back-end/template adjustments without breaking current functionality. What we’re looking for Strong WordPress/PHP back-end experience Experience with MemberPress or similar membership/paywall systems Good understanding of WordPress cookies and authentication/session logic Experience troubleshooting SiteGround or full-page caching Understanding of structured data/schema for paywalled content Ability to work with existing WordPress code rather than rebuilding everything unnecessarily Comfortable implementing supplied HTML/CSS/page designs Strong attention to security and edge cases Ability to test changes thoroughly before considering the work complete Important We’re not looking for someone who will simply add another JavaScript check or hide the content visually. The goal is to make the access-control logic and caching behavior work correctly at the server/WordPress level, while preserving the existing MemberPress subscription experience.
