Lead Java Software Engineer

About The Role Join the European Commission’s eGrants ecosystem as a Backend Engineer, developing business-critical solutions supporting calls, proposals, grants, participants, and audit processes. You will build scalable Java services, APIs, integrations, and business logic while contributing to security, performance, testing, CI/CD, technical decisions, and mentoring. Responsibilities Design and develop backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, JEE, EJB, WebLogic, and KafkaImplement business logic and integrate frontend components with backend servicesBuild and secure RESTful APIs and web servicesDesign data solutions using relational and NoSQL databasesEnsure application security, scalability, performance, logging, and monitoringDevelop unit and integration tests using JUnit and MockitoIntegrate testing and code quality controls into CI/CD pipelinesConfigure cloud services, storage, serverless functionality, and managed KubernetesTroubleshoot complex issues using logs, data analysis, and APM toolsPerform code reviews, mentoring, and technical onboardingCollaborate with QA teams and participate in requirements refinement and estimationMaintain clear technical documentation Requirements Strong Java backend development experienceStrong experience with Spring Boot and HibernateHands-on experience with WebLogic, Kafka, JEE, and EJBExperience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL, including complex SQL and database designKnowledge of MongoDB, CouchDB, or Cosmos DB, including consistency and performance trade-offsStrong REST API and web services experience, including OpenAPI/SwaggerExperience with Maven, GitLab, Bamboo, Jenkins, and NexusExperience with Jira, Git, Bitbucket, and wikisExperience with Dynatrace or similar APM toolsGood knowledge of Agile and ScrumExperience with JUnit and MockitoExperience with SonarQube, SonarLint, Fortify, or similar code analysis/security toolsUnderstanding of SOA, service buses, microservices, and distributed systemsKnowledge of Docker and KubernetesKnowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and JWTExperience with cloud services, including serverless, storage, and managed KubernetesExperience with AI-assisted coding tools such as Amazon Q or KiroStrong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and collaboration skillsAbility to work independently and within international, multicultural teamsKnowledge of public grants or audit management will be a strong advantageExperience with Camunda or Activiti will be a strong advantageKnowledge of European open-source/reusable components will be a plusKnowledge of system analysis and project management will be a plus SoftServe is an equal opportunity employer.
