About the Role We’re scaling development at Sportsbet and looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Java, to join our Betting Product Technology team in Melbourne. You’ll design and build reliable, scalable backend systems while helping uplift engineering standards across the team. This is a hands-on senior role where you’ll take technical ownership, solve complex problems and support the growth of junior team members. Responsibilities include: Design, build and evolve scalable backend services and platforms.Deliver high-quality software focused on maintainability, reliability and performance.Lead technical design and solutioning for complex business problems.Own and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevOps practices.Mentor and guide junior team members, helping strengthen technical capability and engineering practices across the team. About You You combine strong technical depth with professionalism, sound judgement and accountability. You enjoy solving meaningful problems, collaborating across teams and helping others grow. Adaptable and delivery-focused, you bring a genuine sense of ownership and are motivated by building great systems, supporting your teammates and continuously improving engineering practices. What You Will Bring: Proven experience in a senior engineering role, including mentoring and guiding junior team members.Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, microservices and event-driven architecture.Experience with messaging and streaming technologies such as Kafka.Working knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, ECS, VPC, CloudFormation, CloudWatch and RDS.Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, secure coding and engineering tools such as Docker, Jenkins and Ansible.
