Senior Backend Engineer

Who You Are You’re a software engineer with at least 5 years of professional experienceYou have a genuine enthusiasm for software engineering and take no greater pleasure than finding the right solution to the problem at hand and making practical tradeoffsYou are excited about contributing to a product that can drive positive change to the lives of millions of people around the worldYou have strong ownership mindset - “you build it, you run it”You’re eager to continuously learn, grow and step out of your comfort zoneThe idea of working in a successful, high growth startup in a fast paced role excites you What You Will Do Develop scalable & reliable systems Develop core functionality for our own customer-facing and internal products, systems and data platforms, and e-commerce capabilities using modern frameworksDevelop extensible platforms and architectures that make it possible to quickly and efficiently launch new products and lines of businessDevelop and maintain integrations with third-party systemsDevelop the APIs powering the web & mobile platforms for our product portfolio Drive impact in a team environment You’ll work with other software engineers, designers, QAs, product managers, business stakeholders and domain expertsYou’ll drive impact and own your work end-to-end - from scoping & planning, architectural design decisions, implementation and testing, to production deployment and operations What we need from you At least 5 years of professional experience as a software engineer or equivalentExperience integrating and scaling PSPs such as Adyen, Stripe, Checkout.comFamiliarity with scalable cloud architectures, design patterns and best practicesPractical experience with CI/CD and IaC (Infrastructure-as-code)Comfortable using AI coding assistants (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) as part of your daily development workflowReadiness to quickly learn PHP and Node (our main BE tech stack for the moment)Experience with databases & data management practices - relational databases & search enginesExperience with TDD and testable code - unit / integration / performance testingGreat verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas in a simple way to non-engineering teammatesAbility to zoom in and out - be comfortable with getting into the relevant low-level details while also making the optimal tradeoffs for achieving the “big picture” goals. Other Skills You Might Have Familiarity with observability framework, chargebacks, payment methods, recurring payments, 3DS, PCI-DSS compliance and subscriptionsExperience applying LLMs to automate manual business processes or building AI-powered internal toolsA degree in CS or equivalent is a plusPractical experience with building scalable & highly reliable cloud systems that support product used by millions of users around the world 24/7Experience working in cross functional teams
