About The Role We are seeking a passionate and experienced Software Development Engineer to join the S3 Index team at Amazon Development Centre Canada ULC. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining the next generation of S3 Index systems, which are critical for managing the durability, availability, and scalability of Amazon S3's vast storage infrastructure. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of one of the most significant distributed storage systems in the world, supporting trillions of objects and billions of transactions daily. You will collaborate with talented engineers and leaders to build systems capable of handling dynamic access patterns and unprecedented loads, ensuring that our customers continue to experience seamless and dependable storage services. Qualifications Applicants should possess a minimum of 3+ years of professional software development experience outside of internships, with a proven track record of designing and implementing complex systems. A strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems, is essential. Experience programming in at least one modern programming language is required. Preferred qualifications include 3+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an equivalent field is highly desirable. Responsibilities As a Software Development Engineer in the S3 Index team, you will proactively engage with multiple teams to ensure smooth daily operations. Your responsibilities include developing innovative solutions within defined technical strategies, making informed trade-off decisions at the service level, and driving operational excellence. You will be entrusted with building scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems that manage capacity expansion, heat management, and data durability for the S3 Index. Additionally, you will contribute to designing and implementing features that enable customers to access and write primary keys for their S3 objects efficiently and securely. Your role involves maintaining high standards of quality through rigorous testing, code reviews, and automation, ensuring the systems meet the demanding standards of AWS customers. You will also participate in on-call rotations, providing support and resolving issues to uphold service availability and performance.
