About The Role As a Principal DevOps Engineer within Ursa Major's Digital Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's platform engineering, infrastructure automation, and software deployment strategies. This position is not merely about managing servers or responding to deployment issues; it is about leading technical initiatives that enable rapid, reliable, and secure deployment of mission-critical systems across diverse environments—cloud, on-premise, and manufacturing floors. You will serve as a principal technical leader and system architect, responsible for designing scalable, high-availability infrastructure that supports Ursa Major’s diverse operational needs. Sitting at the intersection of Software Engineering, IT, Zero-Trust Networking, Digital Manufacturing, and Cybersecurity, you will develop foundational platforms that empower engineering and manufacturing teams to accelerate their workflows, improve reliability, and enhance security. Your work will directly impact the company's ability to deliver innovative propulsion systems and defense solutions efficiently and securely. This role requires a strategic thinker with exceptional technical expertise, capable of decomposing complex challenges, creating clear architectural designs, and driving pragmatic solutions. Qualifications Minimum of 8+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Infrastructure/Platform Engineering, with demonstrated technical leadership at a principal level.Deep hands-on expertise in Azure GovCloud and/or AWS GovCloud, including VPC networking, Identity and Access Management (IAM), and cloud-native security controls.Proficiency in Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or Flux for automated deployment pipelines.Experience designing and implementing high-availability systems, disaster recovery solutions, and telemetry frameworks like Prometheus and Grafana.Practical knowledge of automated secrets management solutions, including AWS/Azure Key Vaults and HashiCorp Vault.Experience supporting AI model deployment within CI/CD pipelines, ensuring secure and scalable integration of AI workloads.Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach, fostering trust and collaboration across cross-functional teams. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with NIST SP 800-171 / CMMC Level 2 compliance standards, experience with software tools such as Artifactory and SonarQube, and automation of physical hardware and edge environments using tools like Packer, Ansible, or Rancher. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance is also preferred. Responsibilities Lead the research, design, and continuous improvement of platform infrastructure, optimizing developer experience and operational efficiency across the enterprise.Decompose complex infrastructure challenges into manageable systems, creating detailed technical design documents and guiding cross-functional teams through implementation.Serve as a strategic connector between Software Engineering, IT, and Networking teams to unify tooling, share best practices, and eliminate operational silos.Advance Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and GitOps practices using tools like Terraform, Helm, and ArgoCD/Flux to automate application lifecycle management in cloud environments such as Azure GovCloud and AWS GovCloud.Extend containerization and orchestration solutions into on-premise test benches, manufacturing hardware, and edge devices, aligning with the company's hybrid security strategy.Own disaster recovery and business continuity architectures, maintaining automated backup and failover capabilities to ensure minimal recovery times.Partner with cybersecurity teams to embed vulnerability scanning, secrets management, and policy enforcement into CI/CD workflows, enhancing security without hindering developer productivity.Support automated pipelines for hosted and private AI models, enabling secure, high-throughput AI deployment within the company's compliance boundaries.Maintain telemetry, metrics, and alerting frameworks such as Prometheus and Grafana to provide real-time visibility into system health and performance.Mentor engineers across the organization, fostering a culture of analytical problem-solving and technical excellence.Make high-level technical decisions, managing ambiguous challenges with autonomy while ensuring standards of safety and quality are upheld.
