Lead AI Platform Engineer

Employment type: Full-time Location: Toronto/GTA — hybrid, 2–3 days onsite per week We’re hiring a Lead AI Platform Engineer for a Canadian banking client with a strong digital focus. The role sits within AI Platform Operations and supports the administration, governance and production operation of Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power Platform. As the senior technical lead, you’ll establish engineering and operational practices, support AI use cases moving into production, coordinate incident resolution, and improve visibility into platform health, capacity, consumption and cost. The emphasis is on strong administration, governance and production operations experience. Application development knowledge is valuable, but the core responsibility is keeping enterprise AI platforms secure, reliable, observable and well governed in a regulated banking environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AI Platform Administration & Operations Administer and support Azure AI Foundry projects and model deployments, including project setup, environment configurations, RBAC, managed identities, security controls and production readiness.Manage model deployment lifecycles, monitor consumption, track quotas and recommend improvements to model utilization.Monitor Provisioned Throughput Units (PTUs), forecast capacity requirements, report on utilization and recommend capacity optimizations.Support onboarding and operationalization of AI use cases across development, non-production and production environments.Partner with CloudOps and Security on identity, networking, regional deployment, resiliency and platform security requirements. Power Platform Administration & Governance Support the operational health and governance of Power Platform environments, including Power Apps, Power Automate and Dataverse workloads.Contribute to environment strategy, access management, DLP policies, connector governance and service account or service principal lifecycle practices.Maintain visibility into platform assets, ownership, configuration and lifecycle status, including orphaned or inactive applications, flows and agents.Work with the Power Platform Centre of Excellence to assess, request, coordinate and validate privileged platform changes within established ownership and access boundaries.Provide operational assessment, incident triage and remediation coordination for production platform issues. Copilot Studio Administration & Governance Support Copilot Studio environments, agents, publishing lifecycles, production readiness and ongoing operational support.Coordinate agent and environment lifecycle management, configuration changes and governance controls with the appropriate platform owners.Monitor capacity, credit consumption, usage analytics and licensing implications.Investigate unexpected consumption, identify optimization opportunities and support cost allocation and showback/chargeback reporting.Help business and delivery teams understand operational requirements before agents are released into production. Cloud Engineering & Release Management Support secure integrations across Azure AI services, Azure API Management, enterprise applications and cloud-hosted workloads.Troubleshoot authentication and authorization issues involving Entra ID, managed identities, service principals and workload identity.Implement or maintain API management policies for access, consumption controls, rate limits and quotas.Establish repeatable deployment and configuration practices using infrastructure-as-code and delivery pipelines.Support environment promotion, change approvals, release validation and rollback planning. Observability & Production Support Establish operational runbooks, support procedures, escalation paths and production readiness criteria.Implement monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, alerting and operational dashboards across AI platforms.Use Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics and KQL to investigate issues and correlate activity across platform components.Define and monitor service health indicators and operational targets covering availability, latency, errors, throttling and capacity.Coordinate incident response, conduct root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions.Ensure telemetry practices protect sensitive customer and business information. AI Platform FinOps & Capacity Management Monitor Azure AI model costs and consumption patterns, including pay-as-you-go and provisioned capacity.Forecast demand, assess PTU utilization and recommend capacity adjustments.Track Copilot Studio credit consumption and investigate cost anomalies.Develop cost allocation and showback/chargeback reporting across business units, applications, models and environments.Establish cost and usage dashboards, budget alerts and practical measures of efficiency.Recommend improvements to model selection, deployment sizing, licensing, agent utilization and consumption controls. Cross-Team Technical Leadership Partner with Security, CloudOps, Architecture, the Power Platform CoE and AI delivery teams to maintain clear operational ownership.Provide technical guidance on platform standards, engineering patterns and production support practices.Translate platform health, security, capacity and cost findings into clear recommendations for technical and business stakeholders.Support operational reviews and maintain documentation that enables consistent, auditable platform operations. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Strong experience administering and operating enterprise Azure platforms in production, with the depth to lead technical investigations and operational improvements.Hands-on experience with Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power Platform administration and governance.Practical knowledge of Azure RBAC, Entra ID, managed identities, service principals, privileged access and least-privilege design.Experience with AI model deployments, quotas, capacity management and production lifecycle controls.Understanding of Copilot Studio capacity, credit consumption, usage reporting and cost management.Experience with Azure API Management and troubleshooting across identity, application, API and platform layers.Strong monitoring and diagnostic skills using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics and KQL.Experience with incident management, root-cause analysis, operational readiness, controlled releases and rollback procedures.Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, automation and CI/CD practices.Practical FinOps experience covering forecasting, consumption analysis, cost allocation and optimization.Clear communication and sound judgment when working across teams with different responsibilities and access privileges. ADDITIONAL ASSETS Experience in banking, financial services or another regulated industry.Experience with AKS, workload identity and enterprise Azure landing zones.Experience establishing service-level objectives, resilience practices and disaster recovery procedures.Relevant Microsoft Azure, AI or Power Platform certifications.
