Senior Software Engineer Python - Amsterdam (Hybrid) Our client is an Amsterdam based energy trading company. You'll join a small, high-impact technology team as a Senior Software Engineer, working closely with traders, analysts, and operations to build and maintain the systems behind the business's trading and risk management activities. The role is back-end heavy, with a strong focus on a new internal trading platform, though full-stack work across the codebase is part of the job. Day to day work ranges from small improvements to brand-new features, and design experience is expected to carry as much weight as development skills. Day to day, you'll design, build, test, and maintain robust, scalable software across the full development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through to deployment and maintenance. You'll write clean, well-documented Python and JavaScript, manage Git workflows including code review, and work directly with non-technical stakeholders like traders to translate business needs into technical solutions. You'll also contribute to architectural decisions, help establish engineering best practices, and mentor junior developers. Tech stack Python and JavaScript, with ownership across the full SDLC. Git for version control. Cloud experience is heavily preferred, ideally AWS, though GCP or Azure is acceptable. Docker or Kubernetes experience is highly valued. Familiarity with data pipelines, APIs, or real-time data processing, and experience with SQL or relational databases, are strong pluses, as is a background in financial services or an energy trading firm. What we're looking for 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a preference for the higher end of that range.A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.Strong proficiency in Python and JavaScript.Experience through the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.Proficient with Git and standard version control workflows.Strong people skills and self-awareness, with a genuine ability to mentor others.Excellent English and communication skills, comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders like traders.Cloud experience is heavily preferred: AWS ideally, GCP or Azure also acceptable.Strong problem-solving skills, and someone who thrives with high autonomy in a fast-paced, small-team environment.
