Level: P4 (Senior Software Engineer)
Jeppesen ForeFlight is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to accelerate delivery of critical aviation-product modernization initiatives.
You will embed in a small, cross-functional product team and contribute across the full delivery lifecycle—from clarifying ambiguous problems and shaping solutions through implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and operational stabilization—owning significant, often ambiguous problems end-to-end and helping raise the technical bar for the team.
The ideal candidate combines broad software-engineering ability with strong technical judgment, deep production-system experience, and real comfort working in complex existing systems.
You should be highly effective with AI-assisted development: able to define work clearly for coding agents, provide the necessary context and constraints, orchestrate and integrate multiple streams of agent and engineer work, evaluate generated solutions critically, and remain accountable for the quality and reliability of what your team ships.
Responsibilities
Design, build, test, deploy, and operate software supporting aviation products and modernization initiatives, owning significant components and cross-cutting concerns.Translate ambiguous product outcomes into clear technical designs, interfaces, acceptance criteria, and well-scoped units of work for yourself and others.Use coding agents and other AI-assisted development tools throughout the software lifecycle, including codebase exploration, implementation, refactoring, migration, debugging, testing, and review.Decompose and structure work so that engineers and agents can execute effectively—parallelizing work when appropriate and integrating results into a coherent whole.Critically evaluate AI-generated solutions for correctness, architecture, security, maintainability, performance, and consistency with existing systems, and set the standard for how the team does the same.Establish appropriate verification for changes using automated testing, static analysis, security tooling, observability, end-to-end validation, and manual review.Integrate new capabilities with existing systems, workflows, and aviation data formats while actively managing compatibility and migration risk.Identify technical risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs early, drive decisions, and communicate them clearly to engineering and product stakeholders.Lead by example in code review and production support, and drive continuous improvement of both engineering and AI-assisted development practices.Mentor other engineers and help grow the team's effectiveness with agentic development workflows.
Basic Qualifications
Strong software-engineering skills in Python or another general-purpose programming language.Demonstrated experience designing, delivering, and operating production software at scale.Demonstrated experience using coding agents or comparable AI-assisted development tools to deliver meaningful changes in real software systems.Ability to decompose ambiguous work into clear, bounded tasks with sufficient context, constraints, and acceptance criteria for both humans and AI agents.Ability to critically evaluate and improve AI-generated designs and implementations rather than treating generated output as authoritative.Strong understanding of testing, CI/CD, observability, security, source control, maintainability, and production operations.Experience working in cloud environments and integrating with existing systems and architectures.Strong technical judgment, problem-solving ability, and written and verbal communication skills.Typically 6+ years of professional software-engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated ability.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing or improving agentic software-development workflows, repository instructions, automated verification, or developer tooling.Experience coordinating multiple coding-agent tasks or using agents for substantial refactors, migrations, or cross-cutting changes.Experience modernizing, extending, or integrating with complex legacy production systems.Experience delivering capabilities across multiple layers of a software system.Experience working in regulated, safety-critical, or high-reliability environments.Aviation-domain experience, particularly as a pilot, dispatcher, or developer of aviation software.Experience mentoring engineers or leading the technical direction of a feature area or initiative.
