Our partner is looking for a Staff Frontend Engineer - Grafana DataViz based in the United States.
This is a senior technical leadership role focused on building and evolving data visualization experiences for a widely used observability platform.
You’ll work within the DataViz squad to make complex data easier to explore, understand, and act on.
The role combines hands-on engineering with mentorship, architectural thinking, and cross-team collaboration.
You’ll lead multi-quarter initiatives from problem discovery through rollout while keeping user feedback and measurable outcomes at the center.
The environment is fully remote and globally distributed, with a strong emphasis on autonomy, transparency, open source, and asynchronous collaboration.
You’ll also have access to modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate prototyping, testing, refactoring, documentation, and engineering workflows.
Accountabilities
Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing and solution design through implementation, rollout, and measurement.Gather and incorporate user feedback to validate product decisions and assess the impact of delivered solutions.Design, build, and evolve high-quality frontend data visualization experiences.Contribute to the development of visualization capabilities that make complex datasets easier to configure, explore, and understand.Work primarily with TypeScript, React, uPlot, and Apache ECharts to deliver production-grade visualization functionality.Help evolve and modernize existing visualization experiences, including tables, gauges, and other visualization components.Drive improvements to software quality, reliability, testing strategies, and visual regression coverage.Help reduce technical dependencies and improve the ability to release core visualization functionality independently.Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, pairing sessions, and guidance on complex technical challenges.Raise engineering standards through thoughtful technical design, maintainable code, documentation, and knowledge sharing.Participate in on-call responsibilities for the software and services you help build.Contribute to incident response, troubleshooting, and post-incident learning to improve system reliability.Provide technical support during customer escalations and help identify recurring areas of friction.Represent the DataViz squad in cross-team discussions and communicate technical priorities and roadmap considerations.Write technical design proposals, lead demonstrations, and help align stakeholders around engineering initiatives.Collaborate with other frontend squads and engineering teams to solve complex technical problems and drive innovation.Use AI-assisted development tools pragmatically for prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and incident follow-ups while maintaining strong engineering and review standards.Contribute to the open-source community and help strengthen collaboration with users and contributors.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership on complex software engineering initiatives.Strong experience mentoring engineers and serving as a technical force multiplier within an engineering team.Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively in fully remote and asynchronous environments.Strong frontend engineering experience with modern production software systems.Professional experience with TypeScript and React.Experience working with data visualization technologies, visualization libraries, or complex frontend interfaces.Familiarity with technologies such as uPlot, Apache ECharts, or comparable visualization frameworks is valuable.Experience taking ownership of software in production, including participating in on-call rotations and responding to incidents.Strong understanding of software reliability, testing, quality practices, and production support.Ability to break complex engineering challenges into manageable feedback loops, deliver practical solutions, and iterate based on results.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.A user-focused and pragmatic approach to engineering, with an emphasis on delivering solutions that work effectively in real-world environments.Familiarity with AI technologies and development frameworks, combined with a practical approach to applying AI in production engineering workflows.Intellectual curiosity, transparency, initiative, and a strong collaborative mindset.Interest in open-source software and willingness to engage with users and contributors.Experience with observability concepts such as metrics, logs, and traces is a plus.Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, or other observability platforms is a plus.Previous experience using Grafana or related observability tools in an on-call role or personal homelab is a plus.Open-source contributions or project maintainership experience is a plus.Experience working within a fully remote, globally distributed engineering organization is a plus.
