Location and working arrangements: 3-4 days per week in the London office preferred (location TBC in SW London - expected to be between Battersea and Southwark) About Traktara - www.traktara.com Traktara’s mission is to speed up electricity grid connections for critical infrastructure like renewables, battery storage and data centres. We do this by ingesting, tracking and linking data across four domains: Grid connectionsPlanning applicationsRoute-to-market contracts (e.g. the UK’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme)Corporate Ownership. Our data platform helps investors and project developers track changes to competitor projects, assess the viability of their grid connections, and simulate future grid connection allocation rounds. Our Founder and Managing Director, Ed Birkett, has over ten years experience in the UK energy sector, and is one of leading voices in debates about how to connect projects to the grid. Traktara was founded ~6 months ago, and is already used by ~15 of the UK leading energy project development and investment companies. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated engineer to help us scale the Traktara platform. What you’ll do: You’ll work closely with our Managing Director and Lead Software Engineer, gain experience across the product, and build new features from early on. You’ll also help keep things running, investigating and fixing problems when they arise, including providing cover for the lead engineer. Example responsibilities: Build new features for our customer-facing application, internal tools, and data platform.Learn how our data pipelines collect, transform, validate and publish data, gradually taking responsibility for maintaining them.Add new data sources and adapt existing pipelines when external APIs or file formats change.Write tests and maintain practical documentation so the team can share development and operational responsibilities. About you: Interest in the energy sector is a plus but not essential. You’re excited by working in a start-up environment with fluid roles, where you can take on new challenges across the full stack and want to become a key player in a growing organisation. You have 1-3 years of experience building web applications and reliable data pipelines, whether at work, during an internship or through your own projects. You have practical Python, JavaScript and SQL skills, and understand how web applications fit together. You use AI tools to help you develop, and take care to understand, review and test the code they produce. You have the right to work in the UK (unfortunately we cannot offer visa sponsorship for this role). Our tech stack: Python, Flask, React, TypeScript/JavaScript and PostgreSQL, with DuckDB and pandas for data processing. We also use Docker and DigitalOcean. Experience processing data with Python, integrating external APIs or building data pipelines would be useful, but isn’t required. You’ll learn how our platform works alongside our Lead Software Engineer. You don’t need to know the whole stack to apply. To apply: Apply via LinkedInPlease send your CV and a short covering note on why you’re interested in working at Traktara. Assessment process: We intend to hold an initial interview and a final interview, with the final interview being in-person in central/SW London. As part of the assessment process, we may ask you to complete a short technical challenge that’s relevant to the type of work you’d do at Traktara. The role is available either to start immediately or following your notice period, if applicable.
