Description

Senior Backend Engineer | Hybrid - Cybersecurity / AI / Distributed Systems They’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who enjoys complex systems and wants a proper say in how they’re built. There’s plenty going on underneath the surface. Large volumes of data, concurrent workloads, automated processes and services that need to communicate reliably. As the product develops, the engineering needs to keep up. That’s the job. And there’s enough here to keep a curious mind busy. What you’ll actually do You’ll build backend services, APIs and data pipelines, working closely with engineers and security specialists to turn complex requirements into software customers can depend on. The AI side brings its own challenges. Automated workflows need dependable services behind them: handling tasks, processing results and recovering sensibly when something doesn’t go to plan. Your work will include: Designing and building distributed backend services that perform under substantial load.Developing event-driven workflows, with thought given to concurrency, failure handling and recovery.Building APIs and data pipelines that move and process large volumes of information.Developing backend capabilities that support AI-driven automation.Investigating production bottlenecks and improving database performance, scalability and reliability.Helping make architectural decisions, including when to simplify, when to redesign and when something is perfectly good enough.Taking ownership from the initial discussion through deployment and into production. You’ll be expected to question things. If an approach creates a problem six months down the line, say so. If there’s a simpler way to achieve the same result, bring it to the table. That experience matters here. You’ll need: Strong development experience in Go and Python.Hands-on experience with relational databases, including performance considerations.A good understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing and concurrency.A background in cybersecurity would be incredibly handy. The ability to investigate difficult production issues and follow them through.Clear communication and the confidence to explain your decisions. Experience with cloud infrastructure, containers, event streaming or autonomous workflows would be useful too. You don’t need to be an AI researcher. You do need to care about the engineering behind the capabilities, and whether what you’ve built can be trusted to do its job. There’s technical depth, a domain that keeps evolving and room to influence the product through your engineering decisions. The business is about to land a load of funding. You’ll be joining at a point where there’s still plenty to build and meaningful decisions to help make. The package includes equity, hybrid working, and there's loads of flex, and I mean that. Sound like your sort of thing? Give me a shout.
