Simulation and Optimization Engineer

Contract: 12 months (subject to extension). Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands. Salary: Not a constraint for the right candidate! Experience: 6-8 years. Hybrid: 2 days Work from Home 3 days Work from Office Your Profile & DNA: We are looking for a Simulation & Optimization Engineer with strong expertise in Python, Discrete Event Simulation, Monte Carlo Simulation, and Optimization to support critical airline planning and operational decision-making. Roles & Responsibilities Develop and enhance simulation models supporting airline planning processes.Build Discrete Event Simulation (DES) models using SimPy or similar frameworks.Apply Monte Carlo Simulation to model uncertainty and evaluate operational scenarios.Use optimization algorithms and heuristic approaches to solve complex planning challenges.Perform data analysis, processing, and visualization to generate actionable insights.Collaborate with Data Scientists, Software Engineers, Business Analysts, and Business Stakeholders.Translate complex technical models and insights into clear business recommendations.Contribute to the continuous improvement and expansion of the ALIGN simulation platform.Work effectively within an Agile/Scrum environment. Qualification & Experience A Bachelor's or Master's Degree or equivalent.3+ years of relevant professional experienceStrong Python programming skillsHands-on experience with SimPy / Discrete Event SimulationKnowledge of Monte Carlo SimulationUnderstanding of Optimization Algorithms & HeuristicsStrong Data Analysis, Data Processing & Visualization skillsBackground in Data Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM fieldExcellent communication and stakeholder-management skillsExperience working in Agile/Scrum teamsNice to Have Airline Operations experienceAirline Planning / Scheduling experienceLogistics or Transportation Optimization experienceExperience with large-scale simulation and optimization problemsExposure to the ALIGN simulation platform What do we offer?
