Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Senior Cloud Engineer role based in Wellington, New Zealand. The Senior Cloud Engineer will design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructures that support modern digital and identity services for public sector and enterprise clients. day-to-day responsibilities include architecting cloud solutions, automating infrastructure deployment, monitoring performance and security, and troubleshooting complex system issues. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, advising clients on cloud best practices, and contributing to continuous improvement of internal platforms and processes. The Senior Cloud Engineer will mentor team members and help shape technical standards and patterns across projects. Qualifications Strong Software Development skills, including scripting and automation in languages such as Python, PowerShell, or similar.Deep Infrastructure experience across networking, security, and systems design in complex environments.Advanced Cloud Computing skills with major cloud platforms (e.g., Azure primarily), including architecture, deployment, and management.Proficiency with Linux administration, performance tuning, and security hardening. Desired not compulsory.Hands-on Databases experience, including design, maintenance, and optimisation of relational and/or NoSQL databases.Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps).Knowledge of identity and access management, zero-trust principles, and cloud security best practices.Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.Previous experience in senior or lead engineering roles and mentoring other engineers.Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience/vendor certifications.
