Description

About Verifast Verifast is building a future where trust follows you–and never has to be earned twice.Powered by experience, we lead with empathy and know how to include what others overlook, keeping the process human where it counts. We build trust transparently, turning it into a currency that gets approvals faster and levels the playing field for those who do things right. For renters who work hard, dream big, and deserve to be seen as more than a number. Mission of the Role We’re hiring a Full Stack Developer to join a matrixed, cross-functional product engineering squad — a Product Manager, Designer, QA, and other developers, with partnership from SRE, Platform, and security. You’ll deliver new capabilities and continuously improve the performance and outcomes of existing ones. This is a hands-on engineering role, and an experienced one. You will own substantial pieces of work end to end, from technical design through to production, and be trusted to make sound calls without close supervision. You’ll work inside the technical direction the squad’s lead sets, and you’ll be expected to shape it — challenging an approach, surfacing a risk, or proposing a better design is part of the job, not an overstep. We’re a polyglot shop. We hire engineers for judgement and problem solving, not tool loyalty. Claude Code is part of our core engineering process, and we expect engineers to use it meaningfully on real work and develop the judgment to know when it helps and when it doesn’t. We maintain an internal Claude Code plugin encoding our standards, patterns and context, and you’ll be expected to use it well and contribute improvements as you find them. What You’ll Own & Do Ship production code across the stack — backend (PHP/Laravel, Python), frontend (TypeScript), database, and integration layers. This is the core of the role.Own features end to end — take a requirement from technical design through implementation, testing, review and release, and stay with it once it’s live.Engage early with Product and Design to turn ambiguous requirements into workable technical designs, and to surface risks and dependencies before they become sprint problems.Build and integrate AI agent and LLM capabilities into the product, balancing capability with reliability, cost and safety.Contribute to sprint planning and work decomposition — estimate honestly, flag dependencies early, and speak up when scope and time don’t reconcile.Take part in design and architecture reviews, and give code review that makes the change better rather than just approving it.Work with SRE and Platform Engineering to adopt platform standards and observability, and to feed real product needs back to them.Mentor less experienced engineers through review, pairing and day-to-day guidance. No line management, but people should get better for having worked with you.Raise the engineering bar in code quality, testing, review culture and technical writing. Qualifications & Experience 5–7 years of full stack software engineering experiencePolyglot full stack depth — you’ve shipped production software across multiple languages, frameworks and database engines. Direct experience with PHP/Laravel and TypeScript is required, as is the judgment to reason across stacks.Experience shipping production code with Claude Code — you’ve used it meaningfully on real work, know how to get good results from it, and understand where it helps and where it doesn’tAI agent / LLM integration experience — you’ve built product capabilities that use LLMs or AI agents as first-class components, with a real understanding of their reliability, cost and safety profiles in productionA track record of owning work independently — features delivered end to end, with the judgment to know when to decide and when to askComfortable in ambiguity — you can take a loosely defined requirement, ask the right questions, and turn it into something buildableStrong collaboration with Product and Design — you engage early and make their work better through your participationModern engineering practices — CI/CD, code review, testing, observability, agile deliveryStrong written and verbal communication Nice-to-Haves AWS and AWS CDKIDV, fintech, lending, or regulated consumer data environmentsTwo-sided marketplace or multi-tenant platform experienceExperience mentoring junior engineersContributing to internal developer tooling Reports to Engineering leadership Verifast is Head Quartered in Toronto, Ontario Role is full-time, Hybrid or Remote depending on location Salary is based on experience: $110,000 - $150,000 CAD
